Anthony Walker Foundation The Anthony Walker Foundation is a registered charity established by Anthony's family after his racially motivated murder in 2005.

AWF works to prevent youth involvement in hate crime by working with all young people across racial groups to feel secure in their identity and empowered to welcome and celebrate diversity in their communities. Primarily through arts and education based workshops on diversity and inclusion delivered locally and nationally through schools and youth clubs, in addition to the annual arts/sport/educat

ion AWF festival in Liverpool celebrating diversity in the month of Anthony’s anniversary. Such activities and events contribute to improving community cohesion and promotes social inclusion. Nationally, our involvement and activities include:
◾Anthony Walker Law Bursary with Crown Prosecution Service and Liverpool John Moores University, aimed at supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to become a lawyer (this was Anthony’s aspiration
◾Annual Anthony Walker Memorial Lecture with National Union of Teachers
◾Anti-racist education resource film ‘Colour Blind’ supported by Liverpool FC and Comic Relief
◾Talks/workshops for national conferences
◾Contribution to Show Racism the Red Card & Kick it Out Campaigns

21 years ago today, July 30th, Anthony Walker was taken from his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him after a senseless racially-motivated attack.

A young man, 18 years old, full of promise, ambition, and kindness.

Shortly after his death, his family established the Anthony Walker Foundation in his memory to honour his life, and create a legacy and vision for a fairer and more equitable society.

This day serves as a tragic reminder that racism still exists; of the urgent need to speak out against hate, violence and division; and the much needed support for those still on the receiving end of that hatred. Fights which are far from over. But all at the Anthony Walker Foundation remain committed to our promise: to share Anthony’s story, to raise awareness, to promote and grow his legacy, and to support those impacted by hate. The Walker family are always in our thoughts, as Anthony Delano Walker remains at the heart of everything we do; but today, of all days, we send our love, best wishes, and prayers to Dr. Gee Walker and all of the Walker family.

Sefton Council Southport, Sefton and the Liverpool City Region will fall silent at 3pm today (29th July), to remember all those directly affected by the Southport tragedy.

Our thoughts remain with the families of Alice, Bebe & Elsie, everyone injured physically and psychologically, their families and their loved ones and all those whose lives were changed that day.

This silence will be recognised by Sefton Council and other public bodies across the Liverpool City Region and we ask everyone to join in this silence with us, wherever you find yourself.

‘Anthony Reads’ is a new book club organised by Neston High Library and it is being rolled out by our other ‘Tackling Racism in Schools Awards’ partner schools, who are all vowing to continue their anti-racism journey by diversifying and decolonizing their reading lists.

Schools will fully launch this new club in September, and we are excited to hear from students and our TRSA Ambassadors what they are currently reading, what they are learning from expanding their bookshelves, and to being a part of the inter-school discussions.

We will continue to share updates from the ‘Anthony Reads’ book club, so keep tuned in September for more information.

Our third Tackling Racism in Schools Awards event presentation was an incredible night — as always, thanks to our TRSA Programme Manager, Jude Agis.

It was a joyous event, celebrating our Student Ambassadors and school TRSA partners on their anti-racism journey progress and successes. You are all wonderful ⭐️

commemorates the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush in 1948. It was the first of the ships carrying people who were emigrating from Caribbean countries to the UK between 1948 and 1973.

The Windrush Generation arrived in the UK after World War II, encouraged here to help rebuild post-war Britain. In return, they were wrongly detained, deported, denied healthcare and work, and stripped of their citizenship, homes and livelihoods.

We mark this day to recognise the contributions of the Windrush generation and their descendants, and to support the ongoing work of the Windrush Justice Community Collective.
