âLIVERPOOL MUSIC HERITAGE TRAIL
Welcome to our music trail. A whistle stop tour through sixty years of Liverpool music, from 1957 to 2016.
The cityâs relationship with music is deep rooted. And weâre pretty good at it too. The trail celebrates and explores just some of the places, sounds, stories and people that are embedded into our proud musical heritage, our psyche and personality.
Liverpool is a port city. The River Mersey is central to the cityâs identity. It has shaped everything; from the communities that have settled here, the ambience and our attitude to life. Music is at the heart of that. The cityâs great maritime age was between the mid-19th century and the inter war years. The built environment we see today is a legacy of that global influence and has a huge impact on the story of music in the city too.
Music scenes move quickly. Weâve selected twelve locations that have all bitten the dust but were shape shifters and disrupters: from grassroots, underground scenes to global phenomena.
