Just under two weeks to go until Dine in the Dark!

On Friday 4th September, we’ll be at BOXPARK Liverpool for an evening that’s about much more than a meal.

Dine in the Dark invites you to enjoy a welcome drink and three-course meal without relying on your sight, challenging your senses and offering a different perspective while raising vital funds for Bradbury Fields.

We’re incredibly grateful to our Headline Sponsor, Judith West from WPA Health Insurance, whose generous support is helping us make this year’s event possible.

A big thank you also goes to our fantastic Event Sponsors:
Dave Forrest – Myriad Mortgage Services Ltd
Jamie Longstaffe – Longstaffes Flooring
Konsileo
Not Just Travel Karl and Rachel

Thank you to all our sponsors for getting behind Bradbury Fields and helping us support blind and partially sighted people across Merseyside.

There’s still time to experience Dine in the Dark for yourself.

Accessibility is often built into the everyday things around us, but we might not always notice it. Small design choices can make a big difference for blind and partially sighted people. For example:

A raised marker on the number 5 of many keypads can help people find their position by touch.

Packaging with different shapes, textures or lids can make products easier to identify.

Braille on medicine packaging can help people access important information independently.

Voice assistants and built-in accessibility features on smartphones can read text aloud, describe images and help people navigate their device.

NaviLens codes are appearing on more everyday products, allowing people to scan packaging with a smartphone and access product information more easily.

Inclusive design does not always mean creating something completely new. Sometimes, it is about making small changes that help more people use the same product with greater confidence and independence.

Take a look around today. How many accessibility features can you spot in the things you use every day?

A huge congratulations to Arbaaz and Jaimy from Jackson Lees, who took on an incredible skydive in support of Bradbury Fields in July and raised a fantastic £1,123!

Taking the leap from thousands of feet in the air is no small challenge, and we are incredibly grateful for their bravery, commitment and fantastic fundraising achievement.

Every pound raised will help us continue supporting blind and partially sighted people across Merseyside to live more independently.

Thank you, Arbaaz and Jaimy, and everyone who supported and donated to their skydive.

How do you tell the time if you're blind or partially sighted?

There are lots of simple, accessible ways to keep track of the time without relying on a standard watch face.

Easy-to-see watches can feature larger numbers and high-contrast displays, talking watches can tell you the time at the press of a button, while tactile and Braille watches allow the time to be read by touch.

It's a great example of how the right piece of equipment can make everyday tasks easier and support greater independence.

We stock a wide range of helpful equipment in our Resource Equipment Centre at the Bradbury Centre, where our team can help you find options that work for you.

Pop in and have a look at what's available.

Standing on the edge for a great cause.

On 12th September, a team of incredible supporters will be taking on the Leasowe Lighthouse Abseil to raise vital funds for blind and partially sighted people across Merseyside.

For many of us, stepping over the edge of a lighthouse is a daunting challenge. But for someone living with sight loss, everyday life can bring its own challenges – adapting to change, rebuilding confidence and learning new ways to stay independent.

Every participant is aiming to raise £150, helping Bradbury Fields provide rehabilitation, mobility training, assistive technology, emotional support and opportunities for people to stay connected with their community.

If you can, please sponsor our team. Every donation helps people build confidence, maintain independence and navigate life with the support they deserve - https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/bradburyfields-abseil

There's still time to get involved too! Sign-ups are open until 14th August, so if you're ready to challenge yourself for a great cause, we'd love to have you on the team.

Thank you for helping us make a difference.
