Sussex charity educating and caring for children and young people with complex physical disabilities and health needs aged 3-25.

The charity encompasses Chailey Heritage School, Chailey Heritage Residential, Chailey Heritage Futures and Chailey Heritage Pathways. The School is a non-maintained special school where pupils are given every opportunity to make progress towards fulfilment. Chailey Heritage Residential offers flexible care packages up to 52 weeks a year. Chailey Heritage Futures, our transition provision for 19-2

5 year olds, is where young disabled adults are helped to develop life skills in preparation for adulthood, both in our purpose-built accommodation and via sessions at Futures Life Skills Centre, a state-of-the-art leisure and life-skills facility which is also open to people with disabilities in the wider community.

We're so excited for the new school term! 📚

The children and young people are back to school Monday, and we cannot wait to welcome them back. It's been a fun and busy summer, but we're ready to get learning!

With the new term starting, every pupil has a bespoke curriculum created to accommodate each individual’s learning needs (The Chailey Heritage Individual Learner Driven (CHILD) Curriculum).

Working closely with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, Assistive Technology and Speech and Language Therapist, we believe each child and young person should have every opportunity to explore what's possible!

Not long to go now till the Carry the Load challenge...

On 18 and 19 September, three teams will take on the Carry the Load Challenge in memory of Jemima and Luna.

With 50km to hike, 60kg of equipment to carry and 11 intense workouts to complete, the challenge will test every ounce of determination!

Chailey Heritage Music Festival 🎤

Our first ever accessible music festival was a hit!

We had five acts with all different genres, temporary tattoo station, bracelet making, rock painting and mocktails!

We showcased five amazing acts across various genres, plus a temporary tattoo station, bracelet making, rock painting, and delicious mocktails!

Meet Ellis 💜

After leaving college, Ellis joined The Activity Place in September 2023 and quickly became involved in activities including the gym, games, art and cooking. He later started using the swimming pool and, inspired by his experience, decided to become a volunteer.

Ellis has a long connection with Chailey, having attended school here as a child, volunteering gave him the chance to give something back while building his confidence and developing new skills.

One of the opportunities that's had the biggest impact on Ellis has been our creative music sessions.

"The Activity Place introduced creative music sessions, which I loved because I began writing my own songs and I currently have half an album written. I was able to perform for the first time on Celebration Day in front of my family, friends and everyone at Chailey, which was amazing."

The experience has helped Ellis grow in confidence and find a new way to express himself.

"I gained so much more confidence from volunteering and from writing and performing my own songs. I find it easier to express myself through music and I love everything."

We're so proud of everything Ellis has achieved and the contribution he now makes as a volunteer at The Activity Place! 💜

What a fantastic day on the water! 🌊

Some of the residential young people enjoyed an accessible Wetwheels Foundation boat trip, taking in the sunshine and feeling the sea breeze while on the open water 🛥️

One of the highlights of the day was having the chance to take the controls and experience driving the boat themselves!

Carry the Load Challenge 🏋️

Teams of four will hike 50km cross-country in 24 hours while carrying 60kg of gym equipment between them!

Along the way, they'll complete 11 workouts using the equipment they've carried, including 400 squats, 400 deadlifts and 400 bench presses.

They're doing it in memory of Jemima and Luna, every donation will help support children and young people with complex disabilities, while also supporting seriously ill children and their families through Evelina London Children's Charity.
