Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare

Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare Raystede is an animal welfare charity & rehoming centre based in Ringmer, East Sussex. When they need a home, we help find loving new owners. Thank you!
(1404)

Raystede is your local animal welfare charity and working rescue centre, helping around 2,000 local animals every year. We care for a diverse range of animals, from dogs, cats, rabbits, tortoises and guinea pigs to horses, alpacas, donkeys, terrapins and exotic birds. When an animal or bird is found neglected, injured or distressed, we take care of them. And we provide lifelong sanctuary to those

who can’t be rehomed. Many of our animals are looking for their forever home. If you would like to adopt or need to give up an animal, please visit www.raystede.org/adopt or phone us on 01825 840252. We provide education about animals, how to care for them, and we’re always at the end of the phone for help and advice about the animals in your life. We welcome visitors to explore our beautiful site and learn about the special place animals have in our lives. It’s free to visit but you must book online in advance as numbers are limited for the welfare of our nervous rescue animals and to give you a better visitor experience. Daily guided tour at 11.30am * Dogs on leads welcome * Free parking * Café * Pet goods and charity shops. Many of our animals are very shy or nervous so you may not see all of them. We really appreciate it if visitors stay calm and quiet. Just down the road, is Peaceways, our pet crematorium and Rose Garden of Remembrance. We are delighted that the local 10km Avian Influenza Surveillance Zone has now been lifted. While are Aviaries and fowl areas are still closed to the public in accordance with the Avian Flu restrictions still in place, we have been able to reopen the terrapin sanctuary and dog walk. We do NOT have this virus at Raystede. We are still very much open and welcome visitors to the rest of the site – please book your free ticket: www.raystede.org/visit-us/book-your-visit/

We don’t charge an entry fee or for parking because we want Raystede to be free and accessible for rehoming and to showcase our work. If we wanted to make an entry charge, we would need to hold a zoo licence. We are a working animal rescue and welfare charity, not a zoo or petting farm. Charging for entry and / or parking would involve a lot of extra resources and would not be worth the cost, particularly at less busy times. We want visitors to be inspired to help Raystede in many different and long-lasting ways and to be able to see first-hand the impact of their support. Raystede is a charity and we need your support to enable us to continue caring for the animals who so desperately need our help. Donate, fundraise, visit our shops and café, volunteer, leave a gift in your Will or simply tell everyone you know about our work!

Today we are celebrating Penny and Pip being adopted! Penny and Pip are two wonderful guinea pigs who went to their forever home recently and are settling into family life very well.

Here’s an update from their new family:
“Thank you to the Raystede team for helping us with the adoption of Penny and Pip. The whole process was very supportive in helping our daughters understand the full responsibility of pet ownership and matching us with Penny and Pip. Every stage helped us better plan for the piggies and be certain we could offer them the right home.

The girls are now settled in, with favourite past times of eating lots of hay/jumping in the hay area or having an afternoon cool down in the garden whilst being supplied with fresh grass by two very willing owners. Knowing the team continue to be on hand has been so helpful, thank you Raystede.”

Our adopters really are the best! Have a look at some of the amazing animals available for adoption on our website: www.raystede.org/adopt/

Please help keep cats safe on our roads.

Sadly, we have recently had a couple of cats brought to us after being involved in road traffic accidents.

We appreciate that roads are busy and that accidents can happen, but cats do roam and can appear unexpectedly. If you're driving through the local area, please take extra care and keep an eye out for cats near the roadside.

Thank you.

As Volunteers Week draws to a close, we’d like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!

Without the generosity and dedication from our volunteers, Raystede couldn’t help as many animals as we do. Each and every volunteer is invaluable to us and gives us more than we can ever repay.

If you have some time to spare and would like to volunteer at Raystede, we’d love to hear from you – we have many volunteering roles available at www.raystede.org/volunteer

We're delighted to be joining the Parkrun at Malling Rec parkrun in Lewes this Saturday 6 June!

Our team will be providing volunteers to help marshal the event and we'll also have a stall where you can come and chat with us about our work supporting animals and people across Sussex. We’re looking forward to cheering everyone on and meeting runners and supporters from the local community.

A big thank you to Parkrun for inviting Raystede to be involved. See you there! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🐾

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time to support animals in need.

Today, we're shining a spotlight on Fran, who volunteers at our Newhaven warehouse.

Fran said, “I have been volunteering for over 13 years and I never stop learning! It’s great to research items and discover new information and we never know what will be donated next. It’s good to have a purpose in life if you are retired and good to keep your computer skills honed!”

We love hearing stories like this from our volunteers and are incredibly grateful for the time and dedication they give to Raystede. Thank you to all of our volunteers!

Inspired to get involved? Our volunteer drop-in sessions are taking place until 2pm today, giving you the opportunity to meet the team and find out more about volunteering at our Newhaven warehouse:
• Monday 1 – Friday 5 June
• 10am – 2pm
• Raystede Warehouse, Drove Road, Newhaven, BN9 0AD (you’ll find us behind Lidl in Drove Road)

If you can’t make it today, call 01273 927300 or visit www.raystede.org/volunteer
