So, the last big event of 2025 came to a close...at 8am I thought it would never start!! I did have a word with god and despite the deluge, once we got to Royal Ashdown at 9.00am the rain had stopped. We feared the course would be waterlogged but to our amazement the course was open. We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast, just like last year.

Player of the year was up for grabs as there was a few players around the 65 mark, so a solid round of 36 could be a winning score. This time I shared the scotch to everyone's delight. The greens were so quick considering the amount of water dumped on them and I expected some high scores.

In the end 34 pts won the day from Fred Hoad with me coming in 2nd with 33pts . Longest drive was Marcus, nearest the pin was Truff, nearest the pin in 3 was Paul. Best front 9 was a tie between Bjorn and Rob and Barry had the best back 9. Then after, back to the Black Horse for prizes and beer. Due to a malfunction in my brain I awarded the player of the year to Tim Bassett with 69pts but after a check found out it was Fred Hoad 70pts!!!

A fabulous day that everyone enjoyed, if not you know where the complaints compartment is. 🤣🤣

Sunday 6th July The second time we have played the Bantam Bandits in a match play event. They beat us at Horsham last year 7 1/2 to 4 1/2 so we were determined to win the Challenge Cup.

I had hoped for a warm but still day at Eastbourne Downs but the golf god decided nope. It was an overcast and windy day. The wind was onshore and in our faces or across us for most of the day. Bjorn and I won our singles matches and the two ball scramble to get 3 points on the board, a fabulous start and then Dan and Andy came in with 2 points, so now we are 5-1 up, sitting pretty.

What happened next wasn't anyone's fault but a total collapse on behalf of the Black Horse. Out of the remaining 3 games we only picked up 1 point. The Bantam Bandits securing the win 12-6.

We all had a great day, a little slow in places some might say, but I didn't care as I was out first!! An excellent breakfast to start the day and a superb lunch after golf. Thank you Eastbourne Downs GC for a magnificent day, great food, good golf (in places) but most of all great company and the fact that I've beaten Carl twice now :)
Looking forward to next year.

Our 4th PAXO Day was at Mid Sussex this year. 26 brave and stupid golfers braved the heat from hell to celebrate the life of Paxo, a fellow Golfer and friend.

Thank you everyone that attended, these golf days are so looked forward to and with such a good bunch of blokes and real pleasure to attend 😊

The day started reasonably well for me but the wheels fell off after a superb par at the 3rd hole...I'll talk you through it. A fabulous 330yrd drive straight up the fairway using the tiger line to put me 60yrds from the pin, then a half sand wedge to about 7 feet to a nasty litle breaker, two putts for the par. The Golf God said that's enough Vincent, no more, and that was that. A really good day of fun, great company and rubbish golf, for me anyway.

Well done to Toby to come in with 22pts on the back 9 and win the day with Allan in runner up position. Longest drive to Bjorn, NTP to Tim, NTP in 3 goes to Marcus and his miracle 3 wood 😁 and PAXO's pot was won by Paul. The fun continued at the Black Horse later with prize giving and plenty of beer. Here is to Dec's birthday Event on the 29th Aug at Royal Ashdown.

The weather the week leading up to our first event of the year wasn't looking promising. I had a word with God and asked him nicely to give us a good day, and behold the rain abated and the clouds dispersed....he just forgot to turn off the bloody easterly wind!!

Anyway, a good breakfast to start the day in somewhat difficult conditions, the greens were hard to hold and hard to read. Some say Seaford Head is an easy course, not today it wasn't. Some really good scores in, most people scored in the 30's with the winner Mark Ticehurst coming in with 41 points (I’ve cut the bastard to 16, lets see you win now!), shout out to Robbie for a fabulous 38pts.

Nearest the pin was won by Tim Bassett, Nearest the pin in 3 was won by Steve Beasley, Longest drive by Dan Daly. Paxo pot was shared between Mark and Fred. An inspired putting competition in the pub probably brought more tension than the golf day! Well done to Matt and Tim who in the sudden death play off decided to split the pot after 6 straight putts!

Yet again the Black Horse Golf Society excelled themselves with their behaviour, so thank you all for making sure we don’t look like Oik Golfers, the only downer was myself saying C*nt in the clubhouse, which as we all know is very rare coming from me.

See you all on the 20th June for PAXO day, this is the big one in honour of a fallen Golfer, Bartender and Friend, let's do him proud this year with our biggest turn out.

On a cold and windy October, 12 brave golfers from the Black Horse Golf Society braved the elements to play Lewes GC.....nah, bo****ks to that it was a beautiful day, up yours Bjorn for whimping out!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Some great golf played with 9 holes of singles and 9 holes of two ball scramble. Decs team the DanBusters were the eventual winners 6-3 but Bunyan Bhajis put up a fight, a lamb tikka and a plain nan.
Great day lads, shame the others are a bit limp 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This years golf days with the Black Horse.

It started in April with our annual trip to East Brighton, it was a horrendously windy day with most player scoring in the 20's. Only a few managed a decent score, Charlie Hagger and Mark Ticehurst scored in the 30's. Mark was eventually Golfer of the Year.
Mid Sussex in July for PAXO day and yes its twas me that won and a very calm, beautiful and pleasant day it was too, the only day that week that was kind to us, yet the scoring was low and again most scores were in the 20's, except mine of course.
Lastly a fabulous day at Royal Ashdown for Decs birthday, a challenging course but fair, good course management was the order of the day but we are talking Black Horse GS, so bo****ks to that. My 19 pts onthe front 9 set me up for a big win but alas too much scotch (which was delicious) set me on a slippery path with no chance of the win. Well done Dan for a good win in the 30's.
So with that brief outline onto the Ryder cup in Sept/Oct with three bookings next year, two of which are confirmed.

11.4.25 Seaford Head - Not Confirmed
20.6.25 Mid Sussex PAXO Day - Confirmed
29.8.25 Royal Ashdown - Confirmed

Black Horse GS Winners 2024

26.4.24 East Brighton - Charlie Hagger
11.7.24 Mid Sussex - Martin Vincent
30.8.24 Royal Ashdown - Dan Bunyan Bhaji

Thank you all for making these days special, its a real pleasure to spend the day with all you fu***rs.

April 26th marked the first event for the Black Horse Golf Society of 2024. Back to East Brighton (Again!) although next year we may change the venue. Conditions were tough, it was cold with a 15-20mph wind into and across on the front 9, this proved to be a killer for many score cards including mine, apart from the tee shot from hole 1....probably the only decent shot I hit all day!.

Some decent scores were posted including a 34pts by Ticey, and 32 by Matt and Steve B but a great 36pts from Charlie won the day. Other prizes were Dec - NTP, Steve Jackson - PAXO's Pot, Steve B - Longest Drive and NTP in 3 - Barney.

It was a good meeting apart from the weather....Roll on PAXO Day - Thursday 11th July.
