On March 1st 2023 it will be 10 years since Shihan departed ...
Since then his legacy of 'JYG Aikido' has grown globally ....
Hiroaki Izumi Shihan was an Aikikai 6th Dan, responsible in the main for the West Indies, with Dojos in Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia and T&T...
Prior to his passing on March 1st 2013, he and Roger had become firm friends and had discussed his connection with the Aikikai and Roger's with Dai Nippon Butoku Kai.
Izumi Shihan was always keen to train with other Aikidoka, irrespective of style, rank or organisation, so at his behest JYG Aikido was born, not as another Aikido Organisation but as a place where all Aikidoka could meet, train and enjoy practice.
Therefore, JYG Aikido holds no gradings, does not award rankings or confer titles, it is simply a group of open minded Aikidoka who share the common idea that Aikido is Aikido.
Thus there are no fees or paperwork, just a desire to train.
When Izumi Shihan passed, his family in Japan asked Roger to look after the existing JYG Dojos, a great honour and to act as a contact point for others ......
Since that time Roger has been contacted by many other Aikidoka, who either knew Izumi Shihan or had heard of his ways, so today all linked by friendship only, right across the globe...
A simple concept, but it works ...
JYG has all styles of Aikidoka within it's rank, including Aiki-jitsu practioneers, having fun by training and learning together, as if Izumi Shihan was still leading us 🙂
As such, his dream lives on with and in us ..
2023 sees JYG Representatives across the globe in the UK, Kuwait, South Africa, Greece, Japan, Ireland, Canada, Sweden, South Africa, Malaysia, France, Jamaica, Romania, St Lucia, Barbados, Ukraine, Latvia & Russia ....
