Friends of Sheffield Park - FOSP The Friends of Sheffield Park (FoSP) are a group of volunteers devoted to the maintenance and upkeep of Sheffield Park station on the Bluebell Railway.

We are always looking for practical volunteers and armchair financial supporters.

Two sides of the Withyham Signal Box repainted. The signal box is just one interactive element of the Railway's museum. A lot of the work done by one of our latest volunteers straight from a career in banking. Everybody welcome in the FoSP team!

The brief was to replace the horrible barrier on Platform 1 with something more effective and aesthetically pleasing. We are close to putting up a gate to match the existing fencing, as well as extending the fencing around the bottom of the platform ramp.

The team bringing the first recreated bench back to its rightful place. We had feedback that the bench was sadly missed as families make an annual pilgrimage for a group photos. Here's the FoSP members who were on site today.

We now move on to creating two new heritage benches based on newly cast legs. These will likely be positioned along the station drive.

FoSP maintain the much appreciated platform benches at Sheffield Park. Repairs are often required, and there is a rolling programme of re-painting. Occasionally we get the chance to make up a new bench using authentic frame castings and sustainably sourced hardwood.

FoSPer Tony Drake has been restoring our platform lamps to their former splendour. As well as working at the Bluebell, he volunteers as a Friend of Surbiton Station. There, Tony and his team are responsible for the award winning floral displays on the platforms of this Art Deco station.

As well as the big projects undertaken by FoSP, ad hoc maintenance and repairs arise. On Wednesday the ‘To The Station’ finger adjacent to the overflow carpark was found to have rotted and detached from the post. John with major assistance from Ian, resolved and was also able to give it a cursory clean.
