Together Women Project

Together Women Project Together Women are a charitable organisation, working to support women and girls across the North of England.

Together Women Project (TWP) was established in December 2006 with funding from the Ministry of Justice, to develop and test a new gender-specific community approach to women with convictions and women at risk of entering the criminal justice system. Following a highly successful demonstration phase, TWP became an independent charity in April 2009. Our service model is flexible, responsive and dyn

amic. TWP moves women out of crime and into positive futures by working with them to build resilience and develop strengths that enable them to move away from damaging lifestyles in safe women-only spaces. We operate services throughout Yorkshire and Humberside from our City Centre bases in Bradford, Hull, Leeds and Sheffield, and outreach services for women in Barnsley, Rotherham and New Hall and Askham Grange prison. As well as direct services operated by TWP our centres are used by other local agencies ensuring that multiple needs can be addressed holistically. This β€˜one-stop-shop’ approach guarantees that everything a woman needs can be offered in one central location.

Have you spotted our little friends around our Women's Centres? πŸ™πŸ’œ

Our lovely friend and supporter, Wendy crochets and knits hundreds of octopuses, turnips and other adorable creations for the women we support, as well as our staff teams.

Not only are they incredibly cute, fidget toys like these can also help to reduce anxiety, providing comfort and a calming distraction. Here's some feedback from the women who used them in their appointments:

πŸ™ 'They made me feel comfortable and at ease'
πŸ™ 'I took one home as I found it comforting'
πŸ™ 'The fidgets helped my nerves'
πŸ™ 'I loved the knitted dolls'

A huge thank you to Wendy for your kindness, creativity and generosity. Your handmade creations have become a much-loved feature across our centres and are always a hit with the women we support, or staff and visitors.

Which is your favourite? 🀩

That's a wrap on Volunteers' Week 2026! Thank you to all our volunteers, past and present, who have given their time to Together Women.πŸ’œ

We're wrapping up with spotlights on just some of our incredible Peer Mentors. ⭐

Peer Mentors are trained volunteers with lived experience who give support to women currently going through struggles that they once did themselves. They have proven beneficial to keeping women engaged with our services, providing a listening ear, being a positive role model and can develop their own skills at the same time.

A huge thank you to all our Peer Mentors who give their time to help women navigating complex circumstances.

Let's meet some of them! 🀩

Next up, an incredible success story. πŸ’œ

Becky's hard work and determination has seen her go from service-user to Peer Mentor to Volunteer to paid employment, and we couldn't be prouder.

We asked how Together Women has changed Becky's life and she said:
"my life has completely changed, it's given me motivation, best believe I'm here on time every day."

Thank you for being such a valued member of our Leeds team for so many years, Becky!

⭐ Next on our Volunteer spotlight is Lauren.

🀝 Lauren has extensive communications experience and reached out to us to give something back to her community. Organisations like ours often don't have the funding for full communications teams, so having Lauren give her time makes a world of difference.

πŸ‘‡ Volunteering comes in so many forms, from frontline support to giving expertise behind the scenes. Take a look at Lauren's Q&A to find out more.

πŸ’œ Thank you for all you do to support Together Women, Lauren.

Our Founder and CEO, Rokaiya Khan has been reflecting on two decades leading Together Women:
"Over the last twenty years, the women we have worked alongside have taught us a great deal about what helps and what gets in the way.
They have shown us that lasting change rarely comes from punishment alone. Relationships matter. People are far more likely to move forward when they feel listened to, respected and understood."

⭐ Today marks the launch of our 20-year anniversary campaign: 20 Years Alongside Women. To mark the occasion, we've launched our brand-new website, and over the coming months, we'll be sharing stories of the women that have shaped Together Women from a pilot project to twenty years of support.

🀝 Join us, not in celebration, but in reflection and hope that one day all women and girls will be safe, valued and in control of their own lives.
