Ashlar house was fortunate to enjoy some of the sunny weather last month by hosting a BBQ for residents. The event was organised to provide an opportunity for residents, former residents, and staff to come together, socialise, and strengthen relationships.
The gathering came at a particularly significant time following the recent and very sad passing of one of Ashlar house's residents. The loss had a profound impact on many of the residents. After discussions with those living at the service, it was agreed that the BBQ should still go ahead, and attendees were grateful that it did.
The afternoon provided a safe and supportive space for people to come together, reflect, and openly discuss their thoughts and feelings about the loss and the impact it had on them. Residents shared conversations about their mental health, emotions, and experiences of grief, supporting one another through a difficult time. The event also created opportunities to focus on hope, future aspirations, and the goals they would like to achieve moving forward.
Throughout the day, the former resident remained in everyone's thoughts. Attendees shared memories, enjoyed a little singing and dancing, and celebrated the sense of connection and support that exists within the Ashlar community. The glorious weather provided a fitting backdrop to an afternoon of reflection, remembrance, and togetherness.
