💙 Why Ian is taking the leap for GASP
On 28 June, GASP Motor Project Trustee Ian Digman will abseil down the Brighton i360, a challenge he’s taken on because of a deeply personal connection to GASP and the young people it supports.

Ian’s belief in GASP is rooted in his own early experiences. As he explains:
“Ever since being young I have found a passion in things mechanical. Being able to fiddle and fix helped me understand how things worked and gave me a real sense of achievement. GASP feels like a continuation of that passion, where I can see the next generation gaining from the same knowledge and process.”
As a Trustee, Ian has seen first‑hand how powerful that kind of practical learning can be, especially for young people who don’t always thrive in traditional classroom environments.
“One size does not fit all. Our education system needs to be more flexible and allow people to grow in environments where they can operate and shine in a way that fits them,” he says.
“GASP has received positive recognition from hundreds of young people, parents and schools over the years because it gives young people a chance to succeed in a way that works for them.”
So why take on such a daunting challenge?
Ian is clear that visibility matters, especially for smaller charities:
“Small charities need big actions to help them stand out amongst all the other needs and requests people receive. Stepping out of my comfort zone felt important, even though I don’t like heights. Jumping off the tallest moving tower in Europe seemed like a big enough action to show just how committed the GASP team are to what they do.”
With budgets tightening and young people’s needs becoming more complex, Ian believes charities like GASP are more important than ever.
“As funding becomes tighter and needs more diverse, charities like GASP stop people unnecessarily falling by the wayside.”
On 28 June, Ian will quite literally put himself on the line to help ensure GASP can continue changing lives through skills, confidence and opportunity.
