Last week, for your viewing pleasure we brought you Gordon Bentham all in a spin over our Friday lunch. This week? Feast your eyes upon the ancient magic of the mystical East (Gallowgate) with the Masked Magician and his assistant, Rolls McGhee!

TGIF? Hey, it's the weekend and another busy week behind us. Looking back over the events of another week with the expected and unexpected it begged the question: 'What do Veterans Really Need? Good question. Asked Ai... I summarise:

Transitioning from the military to civilian life removes a complete, highly structured daily system. Beyond basic logistics, what veterans actually need centres on structural, psychological, and relational support. They need:

Purpose

Genuine Community

Authentic Respect over Polite Gestures

For 13 years CVS has striven, every day to meet the needs of any veteran who walks through our door...and that ambition is as real today as it was when we first opened our doors. We offer all of the above, every day.

A warm welcome, always. A free breakfast and hot lunch, Monday to Friday, free clothes washing and drying facilities for veterans and their families. Real 360 degree advice and support and the kind of brutal banter you have dearly missed. Come join us, on Monday we do it all again. Have a great weekend!

After a fantastic first Veterans Recovery Network event at Stirling Castle, we’re bringing veterans together there again, on Saturday 5 September 2026 between 12pm and 2pm.

Taking place in one of Scotland’s most historic settings, the session will give veterans an opportunity to meet others, spend time together and connect in a relaxed, supportive environment.

The event is open to all veterans, including those who have never accessed Combat Stress. There is no expectation to share personal experiences or take part in any particular way. You are welcome to join in at a level that feels comfortable for you.

Led by veterans with lived experience of recovery, these sessions are designed to show that change is possible and that recovery is within reach.

This event is part of our Veterans Recovery Network, building local, accessible support across the UK. Thank you to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum for providing the location.

Busy and varied week as ever in the Centre. Everything from Lisa from RAF Benevolent Fund holding a clinic for RAF veterans through to the usual pool and chess games. We had a brilliant insight into WW1 when one of our veterans brought in personal items from that war and, of course, terrific and free hot food every day, Monday to Friday. Come Monday, we do it all again. CVS, every day 09:30-16:00.

Three years ago CVS began a groundbreaking community engagement project, 'Scoff & Banter' where our veterans hosted members of the local community into the Centre for a weekly program of great food and entertainment. The first local to walk through our doors was Heather Louise Potter. Heather has rarely missed a week and latterly ran our weekly quiz.

It was with the greatest of pleasure that members of CVS attended her wedding on Saturday. We wish Heather and Fran congratulations on their marriage and every good wish for their future together.

It was great hosting Lisa Innes from our partner organisation, the RAF Benevolent Fund, yesterday.

If you’ve previously served in the RAF and are interested in how the RAF Benevolent Fund can help you, Lisa will be back in September to host another drop-in clinic. No appointment is necessary.
