Baby Daisy was born at 39 weeks weighing 7lbs 12oz with no initial concerns. However, she struggled to gain weight and settle after feeding.

At 9 weeks old, Daisy was underwent several tests to confirm that she had severe reflux and oral aversion, which caused her pain when trying to feed. This led to the introduction of a nasogastric (NG) feeding tube.

During Daisy’s hospital stay, her family benefitted from charity-funded services, providing support during a difficult time. 💜

Samantha, Daisy’s Mum, shares:

“We weren’t expecting her to be admitted when we arrived at the hospital, so we didn’t bring anything with us. Through the charity-backed Family Support Fund, we didn’t have to worry, and they provided almost everything we needed.

“We were also grateful for the pull-down beds in the hospital rooms; this allowed me to stay by Daisy’s side throughout her stay.”

Daisy is now thriving at home and with her NG tube and is able to feed.

To say thank you for the incredible care they received, Daisy’s family are taking part in Stride the Clyde.

“We are forever grateful for everything they do and continue to do; they made us feel listened to and supported, helping Daisy when she needed it most.”

It’s the halfway mark of the challenge, but there is still time to sign up and support families like Daisy’s. To find out more click here: https://bit.ly/GCHC_Stride_the_Clyde

As we recognise our 25th anniversary, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity is shining a light on the support we provide to the Infant Feeding Teams across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and for Scotland’s smallest patients and their families. 🍼

This includes the Express Yourself initiative, which continues to help mums from across Scotland provide breast milk for their babies with practical, thoughtful support in NICU and PICU.

An Express Yourself pack provides each mum with a cool bag for safe milk transport, a water bottle, and contact details for infant feeding support. Together, these small but essential items help mums stay hydrated, feel encouraged, and safely store their milk whether they’re at home or in hospital.

“It was absolutely fantastic and meant so much to our family to have such amazing support from everyone back home!”

Over 300 pupils from the Isle of Lewis recently took part in a Sponsored Walk. The school raised an outstanding £4,500 for Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity, after their classmate Harvey was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour in June 2025.

He began chemotherapy in July, followed by surgery to remove the tumour in August, which was successful. Harvey and his family live over 170 miles away in Stornoway, so he had to travel down for treatment at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.

His Mum, Siobhan, shares:

“After his surgery in August, Harvey then completed a further 27 weeks of chemotherapy, once weekly on Wednesdays in Ward 2B, and is now doing well. We were finally able to return home in February 2026. During those difficult months, we were incredibly grateful for the kindness and support we received.

“The Play Team were fantastic with Harvey, always keeping him amused and spending time talking with him during our stays. They truly made such a difference to his hospital experience.

“We are also so grateful to the pupils at Harvey’s school, who alongside Harvey took part in a sponsored walk to help raise funds for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.”

As World Cup excitement begins to build ahead of tonight’s opening game, the children and staff in the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow and paediatric care areas across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde took part in our Hospital Sweepstake! ⚽

The countries picked will be who that area is supporting throughout the World Cup, with decorations relating to each country encouraged, and crafts and activities being provided by our wonderful Play Team on the wards.

And of course, every single person in the children's hospital will be cheering on the Scotland National Team, and we are all so proud of how far the team has come already. Whatever happens - you are all winners in the eyes of our young patients and their families.

This Scottish Breastfeeding week, we’re proud to share that throughout Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity’s 25 years, we have provided over £1,000,000 in breastfeeding support programmes and services to mums and babies across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. 💜

After Teddy was born 10 weeks early, his mum Helen received support from our charity-funded service Express Yourself, ensuring her breastfeeding journey could be as successful as possible, despite the difficult start to wee Teddy’s life.

She shares:

“The Express Yourself Project is a small gesture that has a big impact. When I was separated from Teddy, especially in the first two weeks, providing breast milk was one of the few things I felt I could actively do to help him grow. Express Yourself took away some of the stress that comes with that process.

“The exhaustion of pumping through debilitating pain and then recovering from a second major surgery just one week after Teddy's birth was incredibly difficult but I was determined to give him the best start.

“Charity funded services like Express Yourself are essential. By gifting mums like me the practical tools we need they remove the physical and financial barrier and it's one less thing to worry about during a difficult time and ensures that premature babies get the vital nutrients they need to thrive. It also helps mums feel seen and supported on their feeding journey.”

Breast milk plays a vital role in protecting against infection and supporting development for Scotland’s tiniest patients .
