Some people support a charity with a donation.

Some people support a charity with their time.

Some people use their talent, their platform and their connection to a place.

Artist Peter Brown, known to many as Pete the Street, did exactly that.

Pete is not from Glasgow, but his affection for the city is clear in the way he paints its streets, buildings, skies and people.

Earlier this year, Pete donated £12,017.40 to Glasgow Care Foundation, choosing to make sure the money stayed in the city that has inspired so much of his work.

That support will help local individuals and families facing real hardship.

We are also grateful to FoSho STUDIOS, who created a short film telling Pete’s story and why he chose to support Glasgow Care Foundation.

Pete’s story is a reminder that giving back does not have to look one way.

You can use what you have.
Your business.
Your event.
Your platform.
Your creativity.

We are often asked how people access support from Glasgow Care Foundation.

The answer is important.

Individuals and families cannot apply to us directly.

Applications need to come through a recognised agency or professional who is already working with them. This could be a support worker, social worker, housing officer, health visitor, charity worker or another professional.

Why?
Because this helps make sure the need is properly understood, the right information is included, and the support requested is appropriate.

Our role is then to consider grant applications and, where possible, provide practical support with essential items.

This might include things such as beds, cookers, flooring, white goods or other essentials that can make a real difference to someone’s day-to-day life.

Not every crisis in Glasgow is visible.

It can be a parent turning down invitations because they cannot afford the extra cost.

It can be an older person making do without an essential item that should have been replaced months ago.

It can be someone showing up to work, smiling, and saying everything is fine.

At Glasgow Care Foundation, we know hardship does not always look the way people expect.

For more than 150 years, we have supported people across Glasgow with practical grants for essential items, helping individuals, families and community groups through difficult circumstances.

For businesses, professionals and community partners, awareness matters.

But we also have to be honest.

We need support to keep doing it.

Glasgow Care Foundation does not receive government support.

We are run by part-time staff and volunteers, and every donation helps us continue providing practical grants to individuals, families and community groups across Glasgow.

That is why fundraising matters. That is why monthly donations matter. That is why corporate support matters.

Recently, a local food partner supported us through ramen sales, with 608 Glasgow sales contributing to the partnership.

That is the kind of support we love to see.

The quiet crisis does not always look dramatic from the outside.

It can be the person who never tells anyone they are struggling. The parent avoiding invitations because they cannot afford them. The older person trying to make do without essentials. The community worker who knows exactly who needs help. The family trying to keep things normal for the children.

Hardship is not always visible.

It can look like smiles at the school gate, saying “maybe next week”, stretching school uniform for as long as possible, putting off replacing a broken appliance or quietly avoiding conversations about money.

For many people across Glasgow, the pressure is constant, but they are doing everything they can to make sure no one notices.
