In the run up to back to school we got to hand out a lot of cute welcome packs to children who will be starting school in Scotland for the first time!

Every child’s welcome pack contains stationary for school, toys, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a cosy item, book, soft toy, scottish snack and letter fae a local written by a child of a similar age. All that gets carefully packed into a backpack they can then go on to use as their bag for school.

Reading children’s welcome letters and seeing kids reach for the teddy straight away and walk out proudly wearing their new bags is always one of the highlights of our day!

July has been full of kindness, connection, and community 💙

So much love and joy and care on the streets today. There's far more of it out here than they want you to know!

We watched people once again stand calmly and firmly against torrents of abuse and hatred from uninformed, ignorant, aggressive men who have no desire to listen or learn. Just intimidate.

And whilst we certainly don't believe that it's as simple as this song choice suggests. We do think that many of those on the angry, aggressive side of things today could use a little more love in their lives. Love for their neighbours, love for their communities and love for themselves! ❤️

Most of our volunteers are people we've welcomed.

At Refuweegee welcome goes deep. It is far more than the initial kindness shown when a person arrives. It is trust when every other process you've encountered is built on hostility and distrust. It is critical support at the darkest times with as few questions as possible. It is understanding and gentleness even when frustration and overwhelm get the best of you.

And sometimes it's a wee detour to the countryside, seaside or some Scottish sights, whilst you're out in the van helping collect bulk donations.

We are absolutely delighted that yesterday Glasgow City Council passed a motion of support that includes all public buildings in the city joining the Safe With Me campaign 🫶
