Last week our CEO, Lorraine Dallas met with Dr Scott Arthur MP and Kevin Donaghy to demonstrate our partnership with Kevin and the impact of our comfort box.

Our Comfort Box has provided support to thousands of people in Scotland diagnosed with cancer. From practical essentials such as a digital thermometer to comforting items like a scarf, these small gestures carry a powerful message: you are not alone, and people care.

The latest edition of our Comfort Box now includes a copy of Stories of Cancer and Hope, published by Shandon Publishing Ltd. This inspiring collection of real-life experiences has been brought together by Kevin Donaghy, himself a Stage 4 melanoma survivor.

The book offers reassurance, understanding and hope to those facing a cancer diagnosis and we are proud to have it as a staple of our Comfort Box.

I'm incredibly proud that we have both Cancer Card and Shandon Publishing making a real difference in the lives of people affected by cancer.

Every year, Cancer Card provides around 1,000 people newly diagnosed with cancer with a Comfort Box filled with thoughtful items that can make a genuine difference during treatment. From practical essentials such as a digital thermometer to comforting items like a scarf to help regulate body temperature, these small gestures carry a powerful message: you are not alone, and people care.

The latest edition of the Comfort Box now includes a copy of Stories of Cancer and Hope, published by Shandon Publishing. This inspiring collection of real-life experiences has been brought together by Kevin Donaghy, himself a Stage 4 melanoma survivor.

The book offers reassurance, understanding and hope to those facing a cancer diagnosis. It shows that while many others have walked a similar path, every cancer journey is different because every person is different. Having these stories available through the Comfort Box is a wonderful way to support people during what can be one of the most challenging times in their lives.

Our Chair, Ian Pirrie, is passionate about ensuring Cancer Card continues to grow so we can reach even more people across Scotland. One initiative that means a great deal to him is our Comfort Box.

Each Comfort Box contains practical and comforting items designed to support someone at the beginning of their treatment, offering reassurance, encouragement and a reminder that they are not facing cancer alone.

We have always understood that cancer affects far more than the person receiving treatment. It impacts partners, families, friends and carers too.

Five years on we're still here because we understand that a cancer diagnosis affects far more than a person's health. While medical treatment plans are put in place, many people are left to navigate the financial, emotional, practical and wellbeing challenges on their own. Knowing where to turn for help can be overwhelming at an already difficult time.

Connect with cancer charities and services, meet people with experience of cancer, hear from health and well-being professionals and find resources to support you at our free health and well-being event on Sunday 23rd August in the James Watt Centre at Heriot Watt.

The event is very relaxed and you can navigate the stalls at your own pace and take part in the sessions that appeal to you. We're holding the event from 11am - 3pm but you can come and go as you please.
