📣The IVF postcode lottery is an issue Parliament can - and should - fix 📣
Last Thursday, Fertility Action CEO Katie Rollings met with Sir .mp to discuss the continuing impact of unequal access to NHS-funded IVF on the 3.5 million people affected by infertility and subfertility across the UK.
Sir Gavin committed to taking action - and he has already delivered on his promise.
He has proposed a new clause that would require the Government to standardise NHS-funded IVF provision across all Integrated Care Boards in England, "in accordance with existing NICE guidance"
Importantly, this would include standardising the "minimum number of IVF rounds available" and the "age at which someone can access IVF".
The Prime Minister .burnham has said he will ask the Health Secretary to “take a close look” at the issue.
And there is a clear opportunity to keep that conversation moving.
On 9 September, , Chair of the APPG for Fertility, will convene a Parliamentary roundtable, bringing together MPs, clinicians, patients and experts to look at the evidence and what needs to change.
The Health Secretary, has also been invited - and we hope she can join us.
This should not be a party-political issue.
People facing infertility deserve fair and consistent access to evidence-based treatment, wherever they live.
There is a real opportunity for politicians across parties to come together and make meaningful progress.
The postcode lottery can be changed. Let’s make it happen.
