A Gaithering for People and Peace with Secure Scotland

Come along for an afternoon of connections and community action-planning for sustainable peace with Secure Scotland and the Scottish Peace Platform!
We’ll meet at Secure Scotland’s Edinburgh home, Words & Actions 4 Peace, and the event is open to all (booking required - see below)

Are you part of a peace or human rights group, or a climate and justice campaigner in Scotland? Are you interested in creating a culture of inclusion and peace? Do you want to know more about the grassroots and community-based efforts happening across the country? This event is for you.

Bringing together activities and discussions to reimagine conflict, security, and militarisation, the afternoon will be a chance to get to know other people who are engaged in this and ‘dream on’ about Scotland’s role in a fair and peaceful world. This will be followed by a shared, vegetarian Lebanese meal provided by Hummus!

The event is also a chance to learn a bit more about Secure Scotland and the Scottish Peace Platform.
Secure Scotland challenges prevailing ideas about security through starting a better conversation about keeping safe. The Scottish Peace Platform is a network for Scotland’s peace sector.

Please get in touch with any questions about the event, attendance, or accessibility: Shona McCallum, [email protected]

Peacebuilding in Palestine and Scotland 7.00pm Tues 29 Sept Edinburgh QMHo
Quakers have a long engagement with conflict in the Middle East. Hear first hand testimony of working in Bethlehem, West Bank and Scotland.

Matthew Bittle will share an eye witness account of working last year with an organisation advocating on behalf of displaced people in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. He will then reflect on recent work in civil society mediation around the strife in Scotland about refugees and asylum seekers.
We will consider the tensions of working for peace with justice in these two contexts and ask ourselves: Where do we fit in the spectrum of peacebuilding today?
Concerned with issues of mass displacement, continuing colonialism and tackling the drivers of the hostile environment? You will find this open conversation of value.
