We’re getting ready for the Autumn/Winter interview season – and this week, we put our focus on handbags.

We’re looking for high-quality, interview-appropriate bags to help complete our clients’ outfits:

As we prepare for the Autumn/Winter interview season, we’re looking for donations of quality women’s workwear to help women attend interviews feeling confident, comfortable and ready to succeed.

We’re especially looking for:

Autumn & Winter coats
Blazers
Smart trousers (particularly UK sizes 14+)
Dresses
Shirts, blouses & camisoles
Knitwear

Every woman who comes to Smart Works Scotland receives personalised interview coaching and a complete interview outfit to keep.

That outfit could be hanging in your wardrobe today.

Our donation day is a Thursday, and we ask that donations are dropped off between 10am-4pm.

Nobody talks about the hidden cost of looking for work.

Not the emotional cost.

Not the financial one.

Women in our 2025 Unemployment Index told us they were cutting back on food, going without heating, and taking on debt just to keep applying for jobs. Travel to interviews. Childcare. Broadband for online assessments. Hours of unpaid work for presentations and tasks that lead nowhere.
This is the hidden tax of unemployment. And it falls hardest on the women who can least afford it.

63% of women told us the job search process left them less confident than when they started.

The system isn’t just failing women economically. It’s eroding confidence, one unanswered application at a time.

✨ I GOT THE JOB ✨

Naz has secured a role as a Beauty Therapist in Glasgow 💖

After being unemployed for several months, Naz said searching for work had affected her confidence — but today she is proudly living her dream of becoming a professional beauty therapist.

“This job actually means a lot to me. It was my dream to become a professional therapist, which I am today. Proud moment!”

Naz shared how supported she felt by Smart Works throughout her journey, especially with interview preparation and finding the perfect outfit to help her feel confident.

I Got the Interview!

At Smart Works, we believe that when a woman looks and feels her best, she can change her future. Our mission is to empower women to reach their full potential by providing high-quality interview clothing and one-to-one career coaching. It’s about more than just a new look; it’s about providing the tools and the self-belief needed to secure employment and transform a life.

Today, we are delighted to introduce Naz, who recently visited our Edinburgh center to prepare for an upcoming interview.

“OMG. Literally it was amazing to visit Smart Works Scotland today. I am amazed, and so glad to get my favourite outfit for my interview. All the team is amazing, friendly, and very helpful. I am happy to meet them all. Excellent.”

The transformation was about more than just the clothes. For Naz, the experience was a complete boost of energy and optimism.

We are happy to have played a small part in her journey and can’t wait to see what she achieves next.

As teams across the country get ready for Step Up for Smart Works, we are thinking about the women who don’t have the chance to step out for a lunchtime walk, join a team challenge, or take part in the everyday routines many of us rely on.

From 1–10 May, we’re inviting teams across the country to run, walk or roll 10,000 steps a day and raise £200, helping more women step out of unemployment and into a fresh start.

It’s fun, inclusive, and a brilliant way to bring people together — whatever the weather decides to do.
