Congratulations to SCVO trustee Chris Platt, who has been nominated in the Community Development category at the Forty Under 40 Awards!

As Chief Executive of Montrose Community Trust, Chris leads one of Scotland’s most progressive community-led organisations, using sport, culture and place to make a difference across health, wellbeing, employability, climate action and community development.

Alongside his role at Montrose Community Trust, Chris is also a trustee of Angus Rural Partnerships and Montrose Playhouse, and supports heritage and community organisations through his charity consultancy work.

A well-deserved nomination, which recognises Chris’s passion and commitment to collaboration and strengthening communities. Congratulations Chris, and best of luck at the awards!

New edition focusses on sector resilience

These are difficult times – as in the world at large, so in the voluntary sector.

It’s a well-known script by now: rising costs and increasing demand, precarious funding and an increasingly difficult external operating environment.

Charities are the very stuff of society – so its headwinds are our headwinds.

How do we get through them?

That’s the question posed by this month TFN magazine – which not only asks the question, but strives to provide a few of the answers, or at least a path towards them.

We look at issues facing sector resilience across a broad range of factors, and have sought expert opinion on how resilience can be embedded.

There is much that can be done even as times get tougher.

As well as looking at how charities can future proof, we also provide our usual snapshot of how we are responding in the here and now.

Inside, you can read how the sector has reacted to the latest Programme for Government and read about inspiring work taking place in Rwanda, through the work of recovery colleges at home and – bridging the domestic and the international – you can read about how an ancient text is being used in Scotland to tell the stories of refugees.
