We are an Edinburgh-based charity working with people living with HIV and Hepatitis who face inequalities. Our services are delivered by our trained and dedicated volunteer team of around 75 people, supported by a small staff team. We empower people who use our services and our volunteers to be the best they can be. Positive Help started in 1989, in response to a community consultation where peopl
e living with HIV said they needed practical support. We maintain this practical emphasis today, and continue to evolve in line with the needs of those who use our services. We offer a range of supported volunteering opportunities, from one-offs to daily sessions. Positive Help's services:
Supportive Transport Service - enabling people to access their vital medical and health appointments, support groups and other important appointments. All with a friendly driver who will listen during the journeys. Home Support Service - enabling service users to sustain a decent quality of life, independence and wellbeing at home. Home Support offers practical and social support to improve their living environment. Children and Young People’s Befriending service - a dedicated Befriending volunteer is matched with a child or young person to offer fortnightly outings to build confidence and enable them to cope with difficult life situations by building resilience and emotional and social skills. Study Buddies service - a mentor is matched with a child or young person to focus on academic skills and wider learning. Weekly sessions could involve helping with homework or focus on key skills such as literacy or numeracy built into daily living such as reading a menu and choosing food. Foodbank and food parcel delivery - to reduce the stigma of attending a foodbank, food and grocery parcels are delivered. Medication delivery - medication delivered to the door for those who cannot access the hospital or pharmacy. These integrated services offer the support to improve wellbeing and overcome some of the health and social inequalities many face.
