Daryl’s story shows how taking that first step to reach out can make all the difference.

With support from Apex Scotland, Daryl has been able to manage challenges around alcohol use, social anxiety and mental health, while building confidence and reconnecting with his community.

By learning new skills and getting involved in activities, he’s made positive changes and is moving forward in a way that works for him.

Everyone’s journey looks different — but no one should have to take that first step alone.

Mick’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right support, people can rebuild their lives and look ahead with confidence.

After facing a difficult period including a relationship breakdown, alcohol use, and leaving long-term employment, Mick reached out for support. Through the Build It programme, he gained new qualifications, renewed confidence, and the encouragement of a supportive group who worked together every step of the way.

Now, Mick feels optimistic about his future and is already giving back by sharing his journey with others starting their own path.

Everyone deserves the chance to move forward.

Information Event for Families and Loved Ones – HMP Highland Transfer

An information event has been arranged to support families, friends and visitors of individuals who may transfer to HMP Highland.

The session is designed to provide clear, accessible information about the transition and ensure those affected feel informed and supported.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from the HMP Highland team, gain insight into the new establishment, and ask questions about what the transfer may mean for their loved one and contact arrangements.

The event also offers an opportunity for participants to share feedback, helping to shape future communication and support for families.

The sessions will take place in the HMP Inverness visit room on Saturday 4 July 2026, with two time slots available to maximise accessibility.

Advance registration is required, with booking available through the Family Contact Officer or by email. This ensures attendance can be managed effectively and that those attending can be supported appropriately.

Do you have a loved one in custody who may transfer to HMP Highland? We’re hosting an information event for friends, families and visitors who may be affected by this move.

You’ll have the opportunity to hear directly from the HMP Highland team, learn more about the project, and ask any questions you may have. Your feedback will also help shape the information we provide going forward.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we want to share something special.

Every person featured in this video - and in our brand photography - is real.

Real people, with real experiences, who have been supported by Apex Scotland.

Our volunteers made this possible by courageously sharing their stories - often reflecting on some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives - to help us be open, honest and transparent about the work we do.

We believe in sharing journeys, challenging stigma, and showing the real people behind the support - not models, but individuals with strength, resilience and potential.

Thank you to every volunteer who made this possible 💙

Volunteers’ Week - we’re celebrating the power of partnership, opportunity and community.

A huge thank you to Serafin, a local joiner, who worked alongside participants to build this fantastic cupboard for families using the Visitor Support Service at HMP Inverness.

Not only does this create a practical and welcoming space for families, it also gave participants the chance to gain hands-on experience, learn new skills and build confidence.

When businesses choose to get involved and look beyond judgement, it creates real opportunities for people to grow, contribute and move forward.

Could you share your skills with us? Together, we can help build brighter futures.

It wasn’t just a rebrand — it was a collective effort. 🎨

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the people who helped shape more than just our work… they helped shape our identity.

When we began rebranding, we didn’t do it alone. We worked alongside our volunteers, who brought ideas, creativity and honest feedback to the table.
From design choices to the feel of our new look, their voices played a vital role in making sure it truly reflects who we are.

Their input has helped us build something that feels authentic, inclusive and meaningful — because it was created with the people who believe in our work.

To every volunteer who contributed — thank you. 💙
