The world's poorest countries pay almost $23 million every day to wealthy nations. Not only do these repayments worsen poverty but many debts are also fundamentally unjust in their origin. Jubilee Scotland believe poorer countries shouldn't have to prioritise debt repayment over basic services. We believe it's wrong that millions of people are suffering to enable the repayment of loans that were m

ade to corrupt and oppressive regimes, that their populations did not want or benefit from. We believe that existing debt cancellation has failed to help dozens of counties in desperate poverty and imposes conditions on those that do qualify which are destructive and unjust.
