Our kick-off event with the British Council is already tomorrow!

*What Does Language-Responsive Education Mean in Multilingual Contexts?* will open Bilingualism Matters’ renewed online series, **Conversations on Multilingualism**.

Drawing on the British Council’s recently published position paper, we will ask:

How can recognising and including learners’ home languages help children both learn English and learn through English in English-medium education? And how can these insights be applied in other educational contexts where the language of instruction differs from the languages learners use at home?

Vanessa Komiliades from the British Council will introduce the position paper, followed by perspectives from Dr Nayr Ibrahim, Dr Mir Abdullah Miri, Prof. Licia Masoni and Dr Anna Schwarz, and a wider panel discussion.

We warmly invite teachers, researchers, education leaders, policymakers and everyone interested in multilingual education to join us online.

Thank you for a great summary.
We would love to learn more about how you plan to bring this knowledge to the context of Estonia and always happy to reach out to the BM network to source additional information for you, if you identify any gaps.

In an increasingly polarised world where our attention is often drawn what divides us, George Watson’s College recently hosted an extraordinary event rooted instead in the best of what unites us.

The Bilingualism Matters Syposium 2026 in Milan is over.
Over the last three days we listened to 87 talks and seen over 100 posters featuring 44 distinct languages (32 spoken/written + 12 signed) and features 27 different language pairings/combos.

We hosted more than 270 participants, academics and practitioners, including representatives of 20 BM branches from across 3 continents.

We are grateful to the wonderful hosts: Francesca Foppolo and Beatrice Giustioli from Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca supported by 11 volunteers. Thank you for amazing 3 days.
