🎨✨ Turning Old Bottles into Beautiful Creations! ♻️🌿

📅 29 September 2026

What a wonderful and creative session with the CAF team! 💚
Our Arts & Crafts – Bottle Painting session was a huge hit! The women were fully immersed in their artwork, showing incredible creativity and concentration as they transformed old bottles into colourful, unique pieces. 🖌️🎨

The session was led by Nazma Rahman, CAF Project Officer, who encouraged everyone to get creative using things already available at home — old bottles, leftover paint, and those little bits and bobs we often have lying around! 🏠✨

But this session was about more than just art. 🌍💚
It was also a great opportunity to talk about the importance of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, reducing waste, protecting our environment and taking simple steps to reduce our carbon footprint.

♻️ Who knew that something we might normally throw away could become something beautiful?

A big thank you to everyone who joined in, got creative and made the session so enjoyable! 🌱💚

Small actions. Creative ideas. A greener future. 🌍✨

🎨 Dementia Awareness Art & Painting Session – 29 September 2026 💜

We had a lovely and meaningful time at our Dementia Awareness Art and Painting Session with Nila Joshi’s group at Iqra Masjid. 🌸
Dementia is more than memory loss. It can affect thinking, concentration, communication, mood and the ability to carry out everyday activities. People living with dementia can still experience creativity, emotions, connection and enjoyment. Meaningful, familiar, and enjoyable activities can create opportunities for self-expression and social connection.

For some of the ladies, it had been over 40 years since they last painted! 🖌️ The session brought back happy childhood memories and gave everyone an opportunity to reconnect with their creativity.

Although some participants were initially hesitant, a little encouragement soon got them engaged, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
🎨 How art can support people living with dementia:
💜 Stimulates memories and encourages reminiscence
🌷 Supports concentration and attention
🖌️ Encourages creativity and self-expression
🤲 Supports hand coordination and fine motor skills
🌿 Can promote relaxation and a sense of achievement
🌟 Helps build confidence and enjoyment
🤝 Creates opportunities for conversation, social interaction and connection
🧠 Provides a positive way to talk about dementia and reduce isolation

It was wonderful to see smiles, creativity and confidence grow throughout the session. The feedback was very positive, and it was heartwarming to see how art brought everyone together.
A big thank you to Nila Joshi and her group at Iqra Masjid for their warm welcome and enthusiastic participation. ❤️

Dementia does not take away a person’s need for creativity, connection, dignity and joy. Sometimes, a paintbrush can unlock a memory, start a conversation and create a moment of happiness. 🎨💜

🌸 YESTERDAY AT NKS
🎨 Arts & Crafts Session – Reusing & Upcycling Old Bottles
Our Health & Wellbeing and Breaking Silence Group enjoyed a relaxing and creative bottle painting session with Nazma Rahman, Climate Change Fund Project Officer.

The session gave everyone the opportunity to relax, unwind and get creative, while also raising awareness about the importance of reusing and upcycling everyday items. ♻️🎨

Instead of throwing old bottles away, we gave them a new lease of life by transforming them into beautiful, colourful pieces of art. 🖌️✨
Through simple activities like this, we can all do our bit to help tackle climate change, reduce waste and raise awareness of how small changes in our everyday lives can contribute to a more sustainable future. 🌍💚

A big thank you to everyone who took part and made the session so positive, creative and inspiring! 🌷

🌿 NKS Celebrates South Asian Heritage in Scotland 🌿
📅 17.09.26
NKS was honoured to showcase its South Asian Heritage Exhibition at the prestigious Playfair Library, University of Edinburgh, as part of the India–Scotland Dialogue.
The exhibition highlighted the rich history and contributions of South Asian communities in Scotland and provided a powerful backdrop to renowned historian and author William Dalrymple’s talk on the historic connections between India and Scotland.
With around 200 distinguished guests in attendance, the exhibition was warmly received.
✨ A significant milestone for NKS in preserving, showcasing and celebrating South Asian heritage and its contribution to Scotland. 🇮🇳🏴

🌿 Understanding Autism, Building Compassion, Creating Change
On Wednesday,16.09.26, we welcomed Sofia from Ethnic Minority Autistics (SEMA) for a meaningful Autism awareness session.

We explored PDA, crisis and distress responses, ways to support Autistic people, and the different transitions Autistic children and adults may experience. We also learned about helpful resources from Autistic Consulting.

The session created a safe space for discussion, with ladies sharing experiences of supporting their Autistic loved ones. Everyone also took away Autism Myth books in Urdu and English to continue learning. 📚

One participant shared a powerful reflection:
💜 “The problem is not that the person is Autistic, but how we as family and community members behave with them.”

Understanding instead of judging. Listening instead of assuming. Supporting instead of excluding. 🌈

Thank you, Sofia and SEMA, for helping us build greater awareness, compassion and understanding within our community. 💜
