On the Friday of last week, five people were injured in a series of racist and Islamophobic attacks across Edinburgh.
We, at ELREC, value and work toward an equal, inclusive and just community free from prejudice and discrimination and we stand with all of those who were affected by the events of last weekend and who are worried for their safety. We stand, decidedly and absolutely, against all forms of discrimination, all violence and all attempts to rob Scotland of its diversity and the people of Scotland of their safety.

After the protests in Glasgow and across the country this weekend, BEMIS Scotland has issued a statement, condemning the violent and racist behaviour of the protestors and clarifying that “We stand in solidarity with all those affected by last night’s events, particularly individuals and communities who may now feel vulnerable, frightened or targeted.”
We at ELREC have long defined our mission as working towards a prejudice free society where everyone is treated with respect, integrity and justice. So, we see no place and no justification for the violence and hatred displayed at the protests in a Scotland that prides itself on its diversity and its solidarity between communities and individuals across the country.
It is essential and future-defining, for us to work together to challenge racism, address misinformation and build a Scotland that is inclusive, welcoming and safe for all.
