Our Summer weekly prayers from Calum Martin, Church Engagement Officer, continue.

Who do we say You are, o God?
Do we remember it as we live out our lives?
What do our lives tell out of who You are?

When we decide how to treat one another,
Do we remember that You are God who hears each heart
Who knows each voice, who loves each soul?

When we decide how to treat this world
Do we remember that You are God who shaped creation
Who kindled the stars, who tends the creatures great and small?

When we decide how to build Your church
Do we remember that You are God who sends us forth
Who redeems the captives, who feeds the hungry?

Who do we say we are to ourselves, o God?
Do we remember that You know us to the quick
Whilst calling us to be a part of Your redeeming work in this word

When we say who we are, o God,
Do help us – help us to see our part in building Your Kingdom
Whenever, and wherever, You have planted us

Amen

This week's prayer, from Calum Martin, Church Engagement Officer.

O God, our Shepherd

How good it is, when we can work together
To bring Your justice
To share Your light

We know we are not always mindful of that.
We can turn things icy in the heat of the moment
We can burn things to the quick in cold, calculating ways

Yet even if we thrash around in confusion
Your hand is still there for us always
Open to catch us as we fall overwhelmed to our knees
Shocked at what we or others have done

O God, our Redeemer

Help us to reach back
To steady ourselves in the unbounded sweep of who You are
Knowing we are known, and have a role to play

Help us to reach out in turn
To help others feel steadier
To help bring Your justice
To help share Your light

For how good it can be, when we work together
And with You

Amen

The Dundee Kiltwalk is this coming Sunday! Christian Aid has 8 wonderful walkers striding out in solidarity with our most marginalised global neighbours, of all faiths and none. Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive. Christian Aid seeks to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes. Together with people living in poverty, we amplify our voices to speak truth to power and create lasting change. Good Luck walkers and praying the rain stays away! ❤️

As we continue into the Summer, we have another weekly prayer from Calum Martin, Church Engagement Officer. This week's prayer was inspired by the lectionary readings many of us will hear today.

Blessed are You o God

You hear us when we pray alone
You hear us when we pray together

You hear us when we cry out in despair,
cast down or snared into trouble
as much as when we sing out in triumph,
upon seeing wounds heal and bread shared

Blessed are You o God

For you never cast us aside
On stormy tide, You can see us through the gale
In blazing desert, You can see us through to the oasis
On rocky crags, You can see us through to gentler pastures

Blessed are You o God

And may Your blessings flow through us
To carry Your light and love to one another
A hand out from the pit, or a guide to safer shores
In the sharing of bread, in caring for creation

And in being part of Your blessing in our communities

Amen

Looking forward to being part of this event!

Learn how to make church finances work for climate, nature and social justice at a special event in Edinburgh in October..

UK-based Christian climate action charity Operation Noah, Christian Aid Scotland, JustMoney Movement, Hope for the Future, and Eco-Congregation Scotland are pooling their expertise to help churches show leadership in caring for God's creation by investing in climate mitigation and adaptation.

Churches are faced with an increasingly complex landscape, including the environmental and moral implications of AI, mining, fossil fuels, and emerging green technologies and solutions.

The event on Friday 2 October will bring together experts and organisations showcasing inspiring examples of climate solutions alongside investment opportunities for institutions, churches, and individuals.

The free event is for church leaders, church finance decision-makers and all Christians interested in how money can be invested for climate and nature.

It will be held at Augustine United Church, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1EL, from 9.30am on Friday 2 October, ending with lunch and networking at 1.30pm.

We continue this Summer with our weekly prayers from Calum Martin, Church Engagement Officer.

Loving God

How much there is we grapple with in life.

How often do we fear the scale of the challenge?
How often, before the edifice, do we struggle to know where to begin?
How often are we unsure whether we are equal to the task?

God, our sustainer, send Your Spirit.

Help us not to shy away from doing what is right
Thinking we must do so weary and alone
But help us to turn to You

To seek to build Your kingdom not alone
But together with one another
Together with all that calls creation to renewal
And above all together with You

Can one of us alone feed five thousand?
Perhaps not, but when we turn to You,
In Your light and love, we can play our part together
in seeing the abundance of Your good creation
shared fairly out, until all are fed
With baskets full to overflowing

You neither cast us down nor let us go
Let us not grapple against you, blessed God
Striving to serve You in our own strength alone
But to welcome Your blessings into our lives
That Your love and justice might flow through us

That we may all serve, together, with You

Amen

This Summer season we continue with our weekly prayers from Calum Martin, Church Engagement Officer.

God of grace
God of wisdom

The mustard seed is ready to be sown
The yeast is ready to be mixed into the flour
The pearl is ready to be found

Grant us the wisdom to recognise what to do
How best to sow,
How best to bake,
How best to seek

Grant as the wisdom to not dither, nor delay
but to earnestly begin, and to live, and to learn
all in the light of Your spirit

Grant us too the wisdom to recognise we need not do so alone
but to recognise we do so together with friend and stranger
and to recognise we do so together as Your kingdom

And that above all,
That we do so together with You

Guide us as we pray

Amen
