As we journey through Harvest season, we continue with our weekly prayers from Calum Martin, Church Engagement Officer.

Living God

How often do we look away when we see You moving in creation
Turning instead to the idols and images we set-up for ourselves?

How quickly do we forget that You have already set in creation
that which You have made in Your image?

Blessed are You o God
For You set humanity in Your image
Called to join the work of Your kingdom

Help us when we hear hollow idols ringing in this world
To listen instead for Your call to join upon the way
And to recognise Your presence and Your love
In both our own lives, and the lives of those we may not agree with

Blessed are You o God

We are looking forward to welcoming guests from South Sudan to Scotland very soon. Rev Tut Nguoth from the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan and James Wani, Christian Aid's Programme and Partnership Lead, will join us to share more about Christian Aid's work there.

There are several opportunities to hear from them, in Edinburgh, Fife, Paisley and Ayr. All are welcome, please spread the word!

We Refuse to be Enemies

We had a thought provoking, hopeful and challenging afternoon with Daoud Nassar last Sunday. Daoud, from Tent of Nations / Nassar Farm in Bethlehem, challenged the global church, saying,

“It’s very important for us that the Church ‘walks the talk’ in working for justice. It’s not enough for the Church to preach about justice from behind closed doors. And it’s not about one side against the other – it’s about justice for people who are in need.”

from the Just Peace Coalition calls for individuals, churches, and communities to commit to working and praying for a just peace for all who call the Holy Land home. Christian Aid can support you to engage with decision makers on this.

Living God

You have planted us in this creation
Help us to root ourselves firmly in You
Help us to grow together, entwined as one vineyard

And through the year, help us to grow the fruits of Your kingdom
To bring forth Your love, Your mercy, Your compassion
Both at times of harvest, and in the ways we grow through the year
Sowing and flourishing

Blessed are You o God
For You care for all creation, and all who dwell as part of it

We’ve had a great morning at Augustine United Church in Edinburgh as part of our Green Investment Roadshow, with an inspiring range of speakers showcasing the ways churches and faith groups can use their money in a positive way for climate and nature.
