This week, GALVmed, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Livestock Development - FMLD and Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), is convening a two-day stakeholder engagement workshop from the 6-7 August, to strengthen poultry disease surveillance and reporting in Nigeria.

The workshop brings together representatives from government, private veterinary laboratories, poultry producers, academia, and development partners to review the current disease surveillance landscape, explore opportunities for integrating private-sector data into national systems, strengthen collaboration, and agree on practical actions to improve disease reporting and evidence-based decision-making.

Strong surveillance systems are essential for early disease detection, rapid response, improved poultry health, enhanced food security, and more resilient livestock systems. By working together, stakeholders can build a more coordinated and effective disease surveillance ecosystem that benefits producers and protects livelihoods across Nigeria.
