WHEN? 7.30pm, meetings on 1st Wednesday and activity evenings 3rd Wednesday of the month. Please check out our Facebook Events section for more details. Meetings are usually St Mungos Church Hall, Penicuik (just beside Lidl). Activity evenings are generally at Beeslack High. WHAT DO WE DO? Have a flick through our photos to see what we've been up to recently - Sometimes we try a craft activity, other times it's a talk on something. Once a year we have a day out somewhere for our Summer Trip, & there's also a meal out for our birthday each year. We've visited historical buildings like Newhailes and Arniston House, but also local ventures like the Secret Herb Garden and the workshop used for the Great Scottish Tapestry. We enter local competitions as a team, e.g. the Penicuik Horticultural Society Show - this usually entails half baking & half crafts to make up the entry & we look for volunteers from our members to create the items required. We also hold our own wee competitions each month - a bit of fun & completely optional as to whether you want to take part or not, but each win gets you points & at the end of the year we award trophies! Activities to date have included lampshade making, floral art, pom pom making, metal stamping, glass etching & chutney making. Plus there's our annual afternoon tea every August! Basically it's just a great way of meeting other local ladies with similar interests & learning or trying your hand at something new. Members can really be as involved as they choose to be with activities and competitions. ANYTHING ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW?: At each meeting we bring £2 for a cuppa & biscuit!

At our February meeting we had a fantastic talk from Lynne Sneddon on her work with fence fleece. 🐑🧶

Lynne talked us through the stages of transforming small pieces of fleece into usable wool, undergoing a careful process of cleaning, drying and spinning.
She also works with whole fleeces, stopping them from going to landfill. Lynne uses the yarn to weave unique bookmarks, and each one has a story about where the fleece has come from and the breed of sheep.
Lynne's work is currently part of a touring exhibition 'Forgotten Fleece Tales', presented by Ardbeag Crafts and Creation Mill Langholm. It's available to view at Borders Textile Towerhouse in Hawick until the 23rd of March, and for the rest of the tour dates and information about the exhibition you can find out more on their website - https://www.ardbeagcrafts.com/exhibition
To see more of Lynne's work you can find her on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/fresaichigo/ and her website - https://fresaichigo.wordpress.com/
