CashBack for Young Parents is a programme delivered in partnership with Fife Gingerbread and supported by the CashBack for Communities fund.

As part of the programme, Starcatchers delivers Play & Explore, a weekly, Fife-based group offering free creative play sessions for young parents under 25, with little ones aged birth to two years old.

🎉 20 YEARS YOUNG TODAY! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating an incredible milestone: 20 years of Starcatchers! 🌟

For 20 years, Starcatchers has championed babies’, toddlers’ and young children’s right to experience creativity, culture and the arts from the very beginning of life.

What began as a pilot project in North Edinburgh has grown into an internationally recognised organisation, creating performances, installations, community projects, artist development programmes, advocacy initiatives and early years training across Scotland and beyond.

In those 20 years...

👶 102,000+ babies, toddlers, young children, parents, carers and audience members engaged through performances, creative experiences, workshops, installations and community activity

🎭 48+ productions and installations created. 760+ performances delivered across Scotland and seen internationally

⭐️ 360,000+ people reached through live activity, advocacy, training, digital engagement and profile-raising work

🎨 3,200+ early years practitioners, students, artists and educators trained and supported. 106,000+ children reached through early years training and practitioner development programmes

🤝 45+ community engagement projects delivered across at least 13 local authorities in Scotland

✨ 20 years of Starcatchers | Advocacy ✨

For 20 years, Starcatchers have been championing the rights, voices and experiences of babies and young children.

We’ve advocated for every baby and young child to have access to high-quality arts experiences from the very beginning of life, while also ensuring that babies’ rights are recognised, heard and represented through our Voice of the Baby research.

Over the years, we’ve delivered campaigns including Art from the Start, Making My Mark and Voice of the Baby. We’ve also represented babies and their families at conferences, round tables, discussions and events across Scotland and beyond, making sure babies are part of conversations that affect them. We were also proud to join the national celebration marking the incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into Scots Law.

This is something Starcatchers will continue to champion because babies voices matter!
