At CHAS, we believe every child with a life-shortening condition and their family should have access to the care and support they need, wherever they are in Scotland.

Today, on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we’re celebrating the difference specialist hospice and palliative care makes to children and families every single day - you only need to scroll through to see some figures from our latest Impact Report.

Figures that your support helped make happen.

So, thank you for helping us ensure that hospice care is not down to chance.

The first 25 stars in our Walk of Fame will be released tomorrow, Monday 5 October at 2pm.

For a donation of £10 or more to CHAS, you can personalise a star with your name or gift one to someone special.

Your star will feature in our Walk of Fame leading to Hollywood Bowl, before moving to a permanent Wall of Fame near Boots. You’ll also be invited to the official unveiling on 7 November and receive your own star to keep.

There are only 25 stars available in this first release, so make sure you’re at the CHAS pop-up next to New Look from 2pm tomorrow.

The remaining 25 stars will be released on Saturday 17 October.

CHAS support young people pre-birth to 21, and their whole family, in hospices, at home, and in hospitals. They have 2 hospices - Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch. They are the only children's hospices operating across Scotland. Both hospices are designed in a way to feel like home 🏡

£157 could pay for a Cook for a day, ensuring families can come together to share food, laughter, and connection over delicious home-cooked meals in our family dining areas at Rachel and Robin House.

£315 could pay for a Senior Nursing Support Worker for a day – delivering vital care to children with complex needs while giving their families a break from 24/7 caring responsibilities to enjoy a hot cup of tea.

£1,441 is the average weekly cost of food for just one of our hospices.

Their More Than a Hospice Appeal is their aim to raise £20million to transforming children’s hospice care in Scotland for families now and in the future. It will help rebuild and renew their hospices, reach more families at home, and provide expert care wherever it’s needed most, at home, in hospital, or in a hospice. Because every family deserves real choice, compassionate support, and the chance to feel less alone.

Yes, the removal vans are doing their job to take all our favourite things from Rachel House to Mina House this week.

But, we have always said our staff are magic…

…they were able to make their own way there. 🪄✨

Families supported by Rachel House said a ‘see you later’ yesterday as the doors closed temporarily ahead of our major £17 million transformation that’ll help support children and families for generations to come…

Thea and Quinns were the two final youngsters to spend the weekend with their families in our Kinross home as we know it, with everyone saying they’re ’super excited’ for what’s to come next.

Now final touches are being made to Mina House - where we will be delivering the uninterrupted same care and support until Rachel House reopens - ahead of its grand opening on Thursday! 💛🎉

As we prepare to say farewell (for now) to our beloved Rachel House, we recently held an event for families as an opportunity to come together to celebrate everything that has happened over the past 30 years, and to look ahead to our next chapter.

We were truly honoured that Cole - who regularly attends Rachel House - took to the stage during the celebration event to recite his poem 'A New Chapter Now Begins'.

Thank you Cole, you've captured what we all think about Rachel House so beautifully. 🌟

Ava was just 10 when she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. Through every challenge that followed, she faced life with extraordinary bravery, humour and determination - with CHAS by her side each step of the way. 💛

For Ava and her family, Robin House became a home from home. A place where care meant so much more than medicine. It meant family time, laughter, precious memories, and was a space for mum Jackie to simply be mum again.

When Ava died in April 2024, the support didn't stop. The team at Robin House continued to stand alongside her family through their grief, providing comfort, compassion and dignity every step of the way.

Since losing Ava, Jackie has fundraised for CHAS in memory of her 'wee warrior', giving back to the charity that helped her family through the darkest of times.

You too can help ensure every child and family deserves care like Ava received, whenever and wherever they need it in Scotland. 🌈

We were delighted to welcome Cara McKee MSP to Robin House for the first time 💛

During her visit, we shared how children’s palliative care brings together specialist care, practical support and emotional wellbeing services to help children and families across Scotland, whether in our hospices, their communities or at home.

We also discussed the importance of investing in prevention, community-based care and sustainable services that ensure families can access the support they need, when and where they need it.

Thank you, Cara, for taking the time to hear more about the realities facing the children and families supported by CHAS.

"Finding time at home to sit and have a hot drink can be tricky, but when we're at Rachel House and the kids are off playing with other families or staff, we as parents can take that well needed time to relax, have a hot drink or two and a cheeky wee cake. We also get to have a good natter with other parents and staff, something we don't often get the chance to do."
