Our summer events for veterans, serving military personnel and people with a connection to the armed forces are in full swing! Whether you've served or are a family member of someone who has, you're welcome to join us for a morning or afternoon out in our green spaces.

🌿A community skills share workshop on kitchen herbs - Wednesday 24th June, 12.30-2.30 at Linburn Walled Garden, Wilkieston

🌸 Our Hope Never Leaves women only kitchen herb workshop for women with a military connections - Thursday 25th June, 10am - 12pm, at Linburn Walled Garden, Wilkieston

☕ Coffee, cake and a chat meet-up for all current and former service personnel and their family members - Friday 26th June, 12-4pm, Cyrenians Midlothian Community Hospital Garden.

Imprisonment can put a massive strain on the whole family of someone serving a sentence.

We know that it can be a highly emotional time, with lots of additional pressures such as financial worries and trying to keep bonds strong and relationships resilient.

That’s why our HMP Addiewell Visitor Centre team is there to offer a confidential and supportive environment that allows dads to address and understand their relationship to themselves, their kids and their loved ones, and helps families face challenges.

In 2020, Scotland made a Promise – that care experienced young people in Scotland would grow-up loved, safe and respected and that their voices would be heard.

Today, in this video, we learn why these principles are so important. Hear from participants in Cyrenians Youth Participation programme as they speak about their own experience, what they would like to change in the future, and how the Promise is helping them do that.

We are grateful for the support and funding from The Promise Scotland and Comic Relief that allow our young people to have the opportunities to make their voice heard. Not just within the organisation, but across all of Scotland.

Our mediation teams work every day to bring families together and strengthen relationships between parents and children. In all our services, we strive to work with the ‘whole person’, understanding that problems within families are complex, and cannot be addressed in isolation.

In this month’s Scotsman Column, Senior Mediator Alan Jeffrey writes about the impact of his work and how charities like Cyrenians – and the whole person approach – is vital to addressing one of the root causes of homelessness – family breakdown.

Cyrenians HMP Addiewell Visitor Centre are there to support dads like Malcom to reflect on their relationship with their kids, and how they can be a better parent alongside their partners and family members whilst in prison, and after they get out.
