Wellbeing doesn’t have to be complicated - and it doesn’t have to wait until things reach crisis point.

As World Wellbeing Week (24–30 June) begins, SCCR’s latest blog explores how small, everyday steps can help us feel more balanced and better equipped to manage conflict within our families.

From taking a short walk to simply checking in with ourselves, wellbeing isn’t one-size-fits-all. But over time, these small actions can make a big difference in how we respond when tensions rise.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲?

It might not be what you think.

In this thoughtful blog, Lisa Holder, Director of Dads Rock , shares insight into what really matters to dads – and how meaningful time, connection and understanding can make a lasting difference in family relationships.

At SCCR, we know that small moments of connection can have a big impact. Father’s Day offers a chance to reflect on the importance of communication and stronger relationships at home.

'The modern Scottish dad wants to be emotionally present. He wants to be in the thick of it. And with that comes a reality check that parenting is stressful.'

During out event at the recent Children In Scotland Annual Conference, young people from Inveralmond Community High co-presented, sharing their thoughts on SCCR’s resources. Here, Lexi and Lola talk about our resource Monkey Vs Lizard, which contrasts reflective and reactive responses to conflict, explaining how the roots of conflict lie within how our brain develops.

Cyrenians SCCR took part in 2026’s Annual Conference with an event called ‘Emotions and the Brain - Teen Takeover!’. We co-hosted the session with the young people of Inveralmond High School. The young people worked with our learning facilitators Sofia and Emily to highlight the strengths of our resource for teachers ‘Emotions and the Brain’ and to talk about what SCCR and its resources could do better. The session was a great success, with the young people acquiting themselves admirably. We filmed through the day we were at the conference, and so have edited together this short highlights video.

Do you want to know more about mental health support and wellbeing activities available to young people? Are you in or near North Berwick on Friday, 19 June?

SCCR is taking part in a ‘Young People’s Mental Wellbeing Event’, which is being held at North Berwick High School on that day. If you're a parent or carer (or grandparent) who wants to know more about how to boost your young people's wellbeing, speak to us. If you're a professional looking for resources to use with families, you too should speak to us.

In the morning, we’ll be sharing our resources (and sweets!) with groups of young people. We’ve taken part in the Young People’ Mental Wellbeing Event over the past two countries and its great fun – for us and the young people. If you know your young person is taking part in the morning, encourage them to say hi. Our Sofia will be manning our stall.

In the afternoon, North Berwick High School opens its doors to the public, who can come into the drop-in event and ask us questions about our service. We won’t be the only service available to talk that afternoon. Join SCCR and CAMHS, MYPAS, NB Youth Project, Young Carers, Beat, Can-do, ELC Mental Health, Herbspace, Wave Project and more. The afternoon sessions kicks off at 12.30pm.

Understanding emotions is central to how we manage conflict in our work with families and young people.

This free online session (Tuesday 23 June, 8:30am) explores how anger operates - from triggers and escalation through to de-escalation and resolution - and the practical tools we can use to respond more effectively.

In just one hour, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on your own responses, better understand the role of primary and secondary emotions, and strengthen your approach to supporting others in challenging situations.

The session is suitable for practitioners, professionals and volunteers working with families and young people, and no prior knowledge is required.
