Penicuik Community First Responders

Penicuik Community First Responders The Penicuik First Responders is a registered charity in which we are a completely voluntary organisation. Registered Charity No. SCO37495 What do we do?

Please note we are not an On Call service. In an emergency situation please phone 999. The number above is for people to call if interested in becoming a Community First Responder. Penicuik Community First Responders (PCFR) are a group of local volunteers who have been trained by the Scottish Ambulance Service to attend specified medical emergencies and to provide an initial response whilst the am

bulance is en route. We are asked to attend cases around 30 times per month. As we are locally based, we have an average response time of around 5 minutes. We provide an early intervention in situations such as cardiac arrest, heart attacks, breathing difficulties and collapse. A Community First Responder is trained to provide an initial assessment of a patient's condition and where appropriate, use their emergency skills and knowledge to initiate care and treatment. Since our formation in 2005, we have attended over 3000 calls helping to provide support to our local community

More Than Match Fit: 344 Players Now Life-Saving Ready!

What a very busy two weeks for Penicuik Community First Responders!

We’re absolutely delighted to have trained an amazing 344 young people from Penicuik Athletic Youth Football Club across 12 Emergency Basic Life Support sessions. The enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment shown throughout has been fantastic!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported and helped deliver these sessions — your time and effort truly make a difference in building a safer, more confident community.

And a very special thank you to F Fiona Hall, whose months of careful planning and coordination ensured the training programme ran seamlessly and successfully. Your hard work has made a lasting impact!

Here’s to continuing empowering our community with lifesaving skills!

What a night!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate 20 years of Penicuik Community First Responders past and present members, Penicuik Rugby, colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service, and our many distinguished guests. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces and share memories from across the years.

The photos and statistics say it all. Friendship, teamwork, and a shared commitment to helping others. Looking back over the last two decades, we’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved:

Thousands of emergency calls attended
Countless hours volunteered, all from a self-funded, community driven team
