We were delighted to welcome two guests to our meeting on Tuesday 2nd June. There was Esk Valley Rotary President Iain Robertson and Esk Valley member Geoff Dawe. Geoff had come along to tell us about the recent visit made by him and a group of fellow club members to South Africa. There they visited with the Rotary Club of Hermanus and saw at first hand the fruits of the fund raising exercise the Esk Valley club had led last year. With the support of many other clubs in the District and a District grant they had been able to provide a quarter of the funding needed to build an early years centre in Mount Pleasant township just outside Hermanus.

Penicuik in the Park on 30th May 2026 was another day of sunshine (mostly), smiles and the satisfaction of a job well done by members of the Rotary Club.

Once again they had organised Penicuik in the Park for the benefit of the people of Penicuik and the many organisations who take the opportunity to raise funds and gain publicity for their cause. The Rotary Club also raises valuable funds from the event. Those funds enable us to make donations to local and international Charities and speedily respond to calls for humanitarian aid in the event of a disaster anywhere in the world.

This year we had some great help from 4 members of Rotary Club of Esk Valley who assisted at the duck races and the members of Penicuik Harriers Running Club who organised and ran the Kids Races for us. We very much appreciate their assistance which helped ensure both activities could take place and run smoothly. Then there were the two guys who provided the sound and compered the event. Huge thanks to Peter Middleton and Jim Ramsay.

We also appreciate the hard work and commitment of the Penicuik Hunter and Lass committee and the Penicuik Community Events team who run events in the week before and the rideout and the parade respectively in the hours immediately before our event. We very much value our links with them.

Finally thank you to the people of Penicuik for your valuable support at Penicuik in the Park. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

We had a superb talk by local farmer/ businessman Colin McClung on Tuesday 19th May when he visited the club. He talked to us about 'Making Small Farms Work'. This was a wide ranging and interesting talk about an area with which most of our members were unfamiliar.

FINAL CALL FOR SPACES

at

PENICUIK IN THE PARK by Penicuik Rotary

Saturday 30th May 2026

BOOK YOUR STALL NOW

Penicuik Rotary invite you, your business or your organisation to come along and join in the fun on 30th May by booking a pitch for a stall. This is the final event of Hunter and Lass week and the action really starts once the parade reaches the park.

Please think about what you might do to gain publicity and sales for your business or raise some much needed funds for your project, group or organisation at this popular event.

Booking are now being taken for both charity and commercial pitches so do not delay. Pitches are £15 for charities and non profit organisations and start at £30 for commercials.

There will be stalls and vendors of all types, the Rotary Racing Ducks are raring to go and local dancers and musicians will perform on stage. There will be many other attractions including archery, a small animals zoo, an adjacent funfair and a nod to the ‘Gala Days’ of the past with children’s races organised by Penicuik Harriers.

If you want to book a 10m x 6m pitch for a stall you require to provide your own table(s) and you may include a gazebo, kitchen shelter, caravan & awning or a tent. All are gladly accepted. What better occasion to publicise your group or business, while joining in a community event? So come along, and join Penicuik Rotary in helping to make it a day to remember.

Book a pitch now or obtain further information by phoning Reg Dunbar on 07967 141970 or 01968 673493.
