IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

Just to confirm that Penicuik Community Initiative operates from number 15 John Street.

This is the largest side of the former unit that was formerly The Original Factory Shop/St Margaret’s Hospice shop.

The smaller micro units ( in the area partitioned to the right) are 15A John Street.
We are not affiliated in any way to the shops within the micro units.

The Rag Bin at the back of Penicuik Community Initiative shop belongs to us and is for the sole use of our shop.

Please don’t put donations into it.
We have had several instances of people putting bags into it and many bagged items.
This makes considerable extra work for our volunteers who have to empty and sort it.

Donations must be brought to the front door, do not leave at the back door.

We are really small team of volunteers and would much rather spend our time raising money to be used locally than sorting through dirty rag bins.

Thank you!

SMALL GRANT OPPORTUNITY!

Penicuik Community Initiative was set up by a small group of volunteers with our aim being to reduce waste, relieve poverty and enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of our local community.

We do this by selling items that have been generously donated to us in the community shop. All profits (after expenses) are used to meet those aims.

Here’s some of the ways we do this -

- We fund/manage/ cook a free 3 course lunch every Tuesday in Food Facts Friends Hub. We deliver meals, have provided Christmas and new years dinners/gifts, run free afternoon teas, breakfasts ect.

- We provide support to organisations/ individuals with clothing, furniture/household items, toys, books, winter items to keep warm, day trips, vouchers for days out/cinema/pantomine ect.

- we have provided grants to local organisations and charities to support their cause if it benefits our community.

- donated food, hampers, home baking ect to other groups to support their fundraising.

- provided help with funeral travel costs, accommodation costs, musical instruments, work clothing, Christmas gifts and much more.

We have some funding currently available and welcome applications from local groups, organisations, schools ect that would use this grant to benefit the community.

Please email [email protected] for more information.

Funding is limited but we do continuously fundraise and will keep applications for future use if unsuccessful.

Once again THANK YOU to every single person that donates items or buys things in the community shop.
We couldn’t do this without you!

A BIG THANK YOU!!!!

We were delighted to donate £1000 to the residents of Cowan Court in Penicuik recently.

They used some of this money to purchase some outdoor games and shared these lovely photos of the fun they have been having!

Thank you to all our donators and customers. The money raised makes such a difference to so many people in our community.

From a volunteers point of view, seeing pictures such as these makes all the hard work worthwhile. We are a small team but the difference is big!

We hope the residents enjoy their outings and treats with the remaining donation!
