Rees Foundation

Rees Foundation
Rees is dedicated to helping care experienced adults to thrive in the UK. [email protected] How do we do this?

The Rees Foundation was set up to support care leavers from residential or foster care of all ages by providing the support, advice, resources, and assistance (financial or otherwise) that most people could simply turn to family for. We are creating a belonging network for all people who have been in care. By connecting people with care experience to make a positive change in their own lives and t

he lives of others with care experience. Our current projects can be found on our website www.reesfoundation.org

Recently, we welcomed 75 care experienced young people to University of Staffordshire for a Football Development Day, in partnership with Pro-Alliance Sports.

The day included tag rugby, fitness testing, breathwork coaching and a penalty shootout for the Rees Foundation Cup. Huge congratulations to Wolverhampton, who took home the cup! 🎉

But the day was about much more than football. It was great to see so many young people trying new activities, building confidence and connecting with one another - even two torrential downpours couldn’t dampen everyone’s spirits!

Thank you to Pro-Alliance Sports, University of Staffordshire and everyone who helped make the day such a success.

Content warning: This post links to a report that discusses death, su***de and self-harm.

A new independent review, informed by roundtable discussions involving care experienced young people, bereaved loved ones, and organisations including Rees Foundation, found that the estimated death rate among care leavers aged 18 to 24 was three to four times higher than among the general population.

Every one of these young lives mattered.

The review highlighted the deep loneliness experienced by some care experienced young people and the sharp drop in support many face when they turn 18. As they move into adulthood, many are left without the support networks and relationships their peers rely on.

Becoming an adult should not mean being left alone. Care experienced young people need trusted, lasting relationships, consistent support and a sense of belonging as they navigate adulthood.

These findings must help drive a national conversation and meaningful action to strengthen relationships, improve support into adulthood and ensure no young person faces the transition from care alone.
