Cavell

Cavell Cavell is the charity supporting the nursing and midwifery family through tough times.

About Cavell:

When the nursing and midwifery family is going through tough times, Cavell gives help. Cavell is the charity supporting UK nurses, midwives and nursing associates, working and retired, when they’re suffering personal or financial hardship often due to illness, disability, older age, domestic abuse and the ongoing cost of living crisis. The charity offers an effective, tailored packa

ge of support to help everyone who gets in touch. We give emotional support for those in crisis, advice on maximising benefits, signposting and referrals to specialist services, one-off grants to quickly relieve financial hardship and rapid emergency funding for those at great risk. From simple, essential support like money to replace a broken cooker or travelling expenses to medical appointments, to vital life changing aid like helping a family flee their home due to domestic abuse, Cavell is here to help. We welcome support from individuals and organisations who can donate or fundraise to ensure nurses, midwives and nursing associates receive vital help when they need it most.

As part of A week, Cavell is celebrating the people in the community that give us hope: nurses and midwives.

One Million Acts of Hope is a national campaign which includes hundreds of charities, faith groups, organisations and individuals coming together to do good through acts of kindness, care and connection. The mission? Let hope be louder than hate.

Nurses and midwives give people hope every day. Cavell gives them hope in return when things get tough, because we know that a happier and healthier workforce helps the to continue.

Caring is the act of hope we will always celebrate.

That’s why we are asking you to join us in signing the biggest thank you card to all the carers. Cavell has signed on behalf of all the nurses and midwives across the UK, quietly doing extraordinary and life-changing work.

Happy International Nurses Day!

This year’s theme is ‘Empowered Nurses Save Lives.’

At Cavell, we are dedicated to empowering nurses with the tools, guidance and support needed to improve their financial and emotional wellbeing, because behind the uniform, every nurse has a personal story. We listen, we care, and we help.

We’re also committed to celebrating all that nurses do through our Awards programme and campaigns across the year, because nurses deserve to be shouted about from the rooftops!

Here’s to the nurses of past, present and future. You make all the difference. 🙌

Mayor of Dacorum Catherine McArevey attended The King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, which recognised and celebrated those that have significantly contributed to their communities.

Attending as Mayor of Dacorum, but also as a proud Queen's Nurse herself, Catherine wore purple to symbolise Cavell and our charity work supporting nurses and midwives on day.

As a previous Cavell Star Award winner from her time at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust, Catherine understands firsthand why it is so important to celebrate the incredible work of nurses.

She said, "I remember receiving the Cavell Star Award and being totally shocked, it was such an honour to be recognised for doing what I truly love which is being a nurse."

"Nurses do not get enough recognition for their knowledge, skills and dedication, so being recognised in this way is so encouraging and motivating for nurses. I would encourage more nurses to nominate colleagues and spread some of that joy."

Thank you Catherine for wearing purple for Cavell on such an important day!

We did it! Yesterday the Cavell team (plus a purple Cavell mascot! 🦖) walked 15,000 steps in aid of nurses and midwives who often reach that step count in a single shift.

The aim of the was to raise awareness of the incredible work of nurses and midwives, whilst also raising vital funds for Cavell to continue supporting those professionals in need.

SO many of you stepped up to the challenge! It's been incredible to see all the photos you've tagged us in - Thank you to everyone that took part and donated, and we hope you had a great time doing it.

Let's do it all again next year?

On International Day of the Midwife, we want to say THANK YOU to a workforce that is simply one of a kind. 💜

You work tirelessly to care for people during pregnancy and beyond, uniting babies with families and providing essential support at both beautiful and difficult moments.

This year’s theme is One Million More Midwives: a plea to inspire more people to enter the profession. This would not only support the wellbeing of midwives, who are often stretched thin, but improve patient outcomes too.

It’s Cavell’s hope that a million more midwives would lighten the load for a workforce under strain, take the pressure off, and support them to remain in midwifery.

Today we also want to talk about A … a campaign dedicated to celebrating all the good stuff happening in the UK.

We have hope that every midwife knows they can turn to Cavell in tough times, but what’s more, we hope that they don’t need to.

Here’s to every midwife performing a million acts of hope daily – We see you, we recognise your efforts and the weight of it all, and we thank you.

We're thrilled to announce the first Cavell Clinical Procurement Awards in partnership with NHS Supply Chain! ⭐️

The Awards give recognition to clinical procurement professionals across the NHS, celebrating those who work to improve patient safety, enhance outcomes, drive sustainability and champion innovation.

Do you know any colleagues who should be celebrated?

The deadline to submit a nomination is the 11th May 2026, so don't delay.

The judging panel brings a wealth of expertise and insight across healthcare and beyond, and they're excited to shine a spotlight where work often goes under the radar.

Greg Dix, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Professionals, said:

"It’s important to celebrate healthcare professionals in procurement because their work quietly improves patient care every day. They make thoughtful, practical decisions that support teams and strengthen services across the NHS."

Winners and highly commended nominees will be celebrated at a virtual showcase in June with special guest Duncan Burton, Chief Nursing Officer for England.
