Willow Court Farmhouse Droitwich Working to secure the future of the Willow Court Farmhouse, Droitwich) and convert it into 6 flats

Worcestershire Buildings Preservation Trust (WBPT) are working together in a new partnership with Wychavon District Council and Platform Housing Group to rescue this empty Grade II listed building. In March 2020 The Worcestershire Building Preservation Trust was awarded development funding of £259,400 by The National Lottery Heritage Fund to help secure the future of the Willow Court Farmhouse. Th

e farmhouse, which has not been lived in for decades, is in a very poor condition, so the first stage of the project will make the site secure and develop detailed plans to save the building. The longer-term plan will see essential conservation work undertaken to stabilise it, including preservation of a historic timber frame hidden inside, and create six new affordable flats for rent. As part of the project we are aiming to create apprenticeships to enable young people to acquire new skills and we shall be holding a series of community events and activities which will help unlock the lost history of the farm and surrounding land.

Today we had a wonderful workshop all about digitising your documents with Explore The Past. Lee explained to us how to get the best results using lighting and camera setting and how to save files to make an accessible digital archive.

We even watched the will of John Hadley (dating from 1560s), who had a link to Boycott Farmhouse being digitally recorded!

A big thank you to Lee and the wonderful people who attended and asked lots of very good questions.

What a wonderful afternoon we had learning how to get started with local history research. A big thank you to Carol from Explore The Past for leading this engaging and interactive workshop.

We compared historic maps so see the physical changes to the Boycott Estate over time and tested out reading skills deciphering census documents.

Thank you to the The National Lottery Heritage Fund for making the session possible and Friends of Sacred Heart Church Droitwich Spa who allowed to use their hall.

On Monday the rain held off and the sun shone for our digital photography workshop. JDA Media took us on a tour of Droitwich Spa and taught us firstly how to get the best from our smartphone camera and then how to get the best angles of historic buildings on the town.

This week is volunteers week. A week when we celebrate those awesome folks who give up their time to support others and good causes.

So today we would like to salute the amazing volunteers who support the Willow Court Farmhouse project. From the oral history team (pictured), the historical researchers to Alan who captures photos for us, we couldn't do it without you.

This week the volunteers have been helping to plan our upcoming exhibition at Droitwich Heritage Centre. We hope they enjoy their time with us too!
