How can tech and AI take care of our bodies and minds? 80 students learnt to program a micro:bit to build their own answers this summer.

The AI shaping our lives is created by companies far from Lebanon’s reality. We want our youth to do more than use it: to question what it produces and create models that actually serve them.

At our bootcamp, students built hands-on engineering projects and took their first steps into AI, each one focused on using tech & AI to take care of their physical and mental health.

✅ Conductor or ❌ insulator? Don’t guess - build a detector.

For their final project, students wired micro:bits into simple circuits and coded them to test everyday objects: scissors, pens, paper, aluminum foil. A check mark means electricity passes through.

A working detector they designed, built, and coded themselves, in a Computer Science session implemented by CodeBrave at one of the education hubs launched by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Can you teach a machine what a feeling looks like?

That’s what our students spent their summer bootcamp doing: training their own AI models, watching them get it wrong, then figuring out why. Then they gave one model a body: micro:bits, code, sensors, and a lot of trial and error until it finally responded the way they wanted.

For most of them, this was their first hands-on experience with programming and Machine Learning. We want to make sure it’s not their last.

Not all AI teaching is equal.

Our Co-Director Clem Brown told ’s .bonsu what AI literacy should really mean in a classroom. Teaching kids to use AI isn’t the same as teaching them to question it, build with it, and know when to trust it.

Her warning: countries that stop at “consumption” risk falling behind those teaching kids to build. Most edtech in international development focuses on tools, not on that deeper skill.

“Why does it look so perfect? It’s not supposed to look this good.”

That’s what Rawan thought when was checking her research results this summer. AI had produced them but she was the one who noticed they were wrong.

Rawan joined CodeBrave in 2022, from a public high school in Mount Lebanon, before ChatGPT existed. What she took from our programme wasn’t a tool; it was how to think.

Today, she’s studying Computer Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in the US on a full scholarship.

The tools have changed. The thinking hasn’t.

This year, our students learnt Web Development and AI through one of the hardest years Lebanon has known recently. They showed up. They kept going. They built.

Alaa said yes to building a website before he knew how to build one.
He told that story last month, at our Future Builders graduation event, speaking to new students and fellow alumni.
What started as curiosity about tech became 3 scholarships, 8 freelance contracts and a cybersecurity internship since joining CodeBrave.
His advice to the room: never wait to feel ready before saying yes to an opportunity.
It’s exactly the kind of story that shows students what is possible once they start.
