It's so important that we learn to make spaces that are safe for children and young people to feel those big feelings. We can help them learn what different emotions are by talking about emotions in stories and explaining how they can feel in our bodies.

Traumatised people can struggle to accept love and care when they have been hurt by another person. But as you try and work out how to care for them by asking those who are in their world and asking them, they will be grateful even if they don’t look like they are. We often hear from adults who remember people in their past who they may not have been grateful to at the time but now realise that their kindness gave them hope for their future.

When there is a caring church who pray, care and understand trauma symptoms, there is huge hope that they can recover from the impact of trauma.❤️

Traumatised people can often be hyper vigilant and so are also very impacted by the atmosphere of a home or other setting. It can make them analyse everything you say, your body language, your facial expression and your words. It can then make them nervous and jumpy wherever they are as they learn to ‘check’ and ‘read’ adults to see what is going on.

So it’s important that we recognise that we can create atmospheres that are warm, caring, safe and consistent for them.

We'd love you to join us on Saturday 17th April 2027 where we will be exploring 'Building Healthy Communities in Turbulent Times'.

How do we facilitate healing and freedom from anxiety, fear and turmoil? We will explore responses to specific traumatic crisis, facilitating small support groups and how churches can respond to uncertain times and wider community crisis.

The centrality of relationships is so important for churches and organisations to grasp as then we can help facilitate a culture of connection where people feel vulnerable enough to share their needs and ask for help within their communities.

Trauma Informed Churches are committed to seeing every generation healed and released from the significant impact of trauma.

We are excited about all that God is doing at the minute, and are believing that we will see more and more churches equipped to be able to understand what trauma is and more about the trauma recovery journey, and seeing more and more people healed from its impact.

In October 2026 a new cohort for the Trauma Informed Churches Certificate is starting!

This course exists to help people who are serving in churches or Christian organisations learn about the impact of trauma and how we can facilitate recovery. It explores the foundational teaching on trauma which is from neuroscience, evidenced based research and the Bible. The training explores practical implications and strategies to support those who are traumatised.

Society is starving relationally and losing the art of using creative practices with trauma informed skill. So we have redesigned the TIC course for 2026-27 to be a blend of in person, creative, relational, experiential time together, and some modules being delivered online on zoom. We know this will strengthen the training content and will be worth the travel.
