Bath Rugby Foundation

Bath Rugby Foundation We re-ignite confidence and self-worth in young people and give them the life skills and opportunities to not only survive but to thrive in the world.

We're a charity that helps young people who need emotional, practical and physical support by building confidence, developing life skills and creating pathways to independence. We put our hearts and souls into helping any challenged young person stop feeling judged, crushed or underestimated and start feeling self-assured, hopeful and happy. Every year we change the lives of thousands of young people by being active in their communities, schools or at our home at the Rec.

Many of our young people at the Alternative Learning Hub had been out of mainstream education for 18 months or more before joining us.

Through practical, hands-on learning with employers like Cosgrove & Drew Ltd, they’re re-engaging with education, rebuilding confidence, and discovering how they learn best.

It's week 3 of our sessions with Cosgrove & Drew. This week, they delivered a hands-on electrical installation session, introducing key principles before supporting our young people to put their learning into practice.

Working alongside Kevin Merricks and Paul Matthews, our young people successfully wired a 13-amp plug before progressing to installing circuits from an electrical drawing, applying new skills in a practical, real-world context.

"The young people are already building confidence through hands-on experience and practical challenges." – Cosgrove & Drew

All seven young people remained fully engaged throughout two hours of practical learning, demonstrating focus, teamwork and real determination - something that may not have happened when they first joined us.

These experiences are helping them develop the confidence and skills needed to progress into employment, apprenticeships and further training.

Thank you to Cosgrove & Drew for delivering opportunities that meet young people where they are and support how they learn best.

Love of Rugby Festival Postponed

Melksham Rugby Club, along with Bath Rugby Foundation, have made the difficult decision to postpone the Love of Rugby Festival due to take place this Wednesday, following the Red Weather Warning issued by the Met Office.

The safety and wellbeing of all participants, volunteers, and supporters is our top priority, and we feel this is the right decision under the circumstances.

We are currently working on securing a new date and hope to reschedule the festival for August or September. Please keep an eye on our social media channels and club communications for further updates.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the festival later in the year.

We’re happy to be supporting our friends at Calibre 100 as they welcome Charlie Ewels for a special business networking evening in Bath on Thursday 23rd July.

Many of our supporters will know Charlie for his achievements with Bath Rugby and England, but we’ve also seen first-hand his commitment to the local community and the young people supported by Bath Rugby Foundation.

Charlie will be sharing insights from his career, reflecting on leadership, resilience, teamwork and the lessons learned both on and off the pitch.
Alongside the opportunity to hear his story, attendees will have the chance to connect with business leaders and professionals from across the region.

Calibre 100 have been fantastic supporters of Bath Rugby Foundation since launching in Bath, and we’ve made some valuable connections through their events. If you're looking for an evening of meaningful networking, great conversation and inspiration from one of rugby’s most respected figures, we’d encourage you to join us from 6pm - 8:30pm at Newark Works Bath.

Inequality is already shaping life chances for children and young people across Bath & North East Somerset.

1 in 5 children are growing up in poverty.
Life expectancy can vary by around 10 years depending on where you’re born.
And too many young people are being left behind in education and opportunity.

This is why Bath Rugby Foundation exists - to use our pathway of support in education and sport to help young people build confidence, skills and brighter futures.

Your support can help us make real, long lasting change: https://www.bathrugbyfoundation.com/appeal/donate

Thank you for standing with us.

Too many young people in the UK are currently not in education, employment or training (NEET), with over 1 million young people facing barriers to accessing meaningful pathways into work.

Opportunities like our Work Experience Wednesdays are helping to change that.

Week two of our sessions with Cosgrove & Drew Ltd continued to build on this aim, giving young people hands-on insight into careers in engineering and construction.

“The young people are already building confidence through hands-on experience and practical challenges.” – Cosgrove & Drew

This week, participants progressed to constructing stud walling, working from technical drawings and developing practical skills including measuring, marking, cutting timber, and using hand and power tools safely.

Split into two groups, they worked alongside Paul Matthews and Josh Tanner, continuing to build confidence, teamwork and communication skills in a real working environment.

“The programme is giving young people valuable insight into the opportunities and career paths available within engineering.” – Zac Cosgrove

By Week two, our young people were already applying the health and safety knowledge gained in week one with growing confidence and independence.

With 1.25 million young people predicted to be not in education, employment, or training (NEET) by 2031, creating opportunities that develop practical skills and employability has never been more important.

That's why we're incredibly grateful to Nick Penrose, who gave his time and expertise to deliver a seven-week carpentry course to participants from our Alternative Learning Hub.

Throughout the programme, our learners designed and built their own toolboxes, developing practical carpentry skills while learning the value of patience, problem-solving, attention to detail and perseverance. The pride on display as they completed their projects was clear to see.

Nick's knowledge and encouragement helped our young people grow in confidence while developing practical and transferable skills that can support their next steps into further education, employment or training.

Thank you, Nick, for investing your time in our young people and helping to create meaningful pathways to independence.

At Bath Rugby Foundation, we tackle the growing number of young people not in education, employment or training by connecting them with professionals who can inspire, mentor and equip them with skills for the future.

If your organisation, business or team could offer workshops, workplace experiences, mentoring or practical learning opportunities for our young people next academic year, we'd love to start a conversation: https://www.bathrugbyfoundation.com/work-experience-wednesdays-partner-with-us

A big welcome to Cosgrove & Drew, who have joined our Work Experience Wednesdays programme!

Over the next six weeks, our learners will get hands-on experience in the engineering and construction industry, learning from experienced professionals and developing valuable workplace skills.

The first session was a great success, with learners taking part in health and safety training before putting their new skills into practice by building a timber stud wall together. It was fantastic to see so much teamwork, engagement and enthusiasm throughout the day.

A huge thank you to Cosgrove & Drew for supporting young people to explore new career opportunities and gain real-world experience.

We can't wait to share more from the programme over the coming weeks!
