Bath Rugby Foundation

Bath Rugby Foundation We re-ignite confidence and self-worth in young people and give them the life skills and opportunities to not only survive but to thrive in the world.

We're a charity that helps young people who need emotional, practical and physical support by building confidence, developing life skills and creating pathways to independence. We put our hearts and souls into helping any challenged young person stop feeling judged, crushed or underestimated and start feeling self-assured, hopeful and happy. Every year we change the lives of thousands of young people by being active in their communities, schools or at our home at the Rec.

For 11-year-old Isobel, starting secondary school felt daunting.

Break Out gave her a safe space to build confidence, make new friends and face a big transition with greater belief in herself.

But Isobel’s story is just one example of why this work matters.

This summer alone, our coaches have:
- Delivered 92 hours of support across 23 sessions
- Provided 171 meals
- Reached 186 families eligible for Free School Meals

Break Out is there for families facing the gap that comes when school closes.

As our Community Manager, Jack, says: “Break Out bridges a crucial gap. We remove the barriers of cost and travel, taking food, sport and safe spaces directly to families.”

While the school gates may have closed for summer, our work never stopped.

Across Shepton Mallet, Midsomer Norton and Bath, our coaches delivered 92 hours of support across 23 sessions, reaching 186 families, and providing 171 meals to young people.

From sport and food to safe spaces and new experiences, Break Out helps bridge the gap the summer holidays can create for families, particularly those receiving Free School Meals.

At Welton Primary School, we rounded off the summer with a visit from ZooLab, giving young people the chance to get up close with frogs, snakes, spiders and giant cockroaches.

As our Community Manager says: “BreakOut bridges a crucial gap. We remove the barriers of cost and travel, taking food, sport and safe spaces directly to families. We provide social, emotional and practical support to children and young people who need it, at a time when they need it most.”

And you can help us reach even more young people where they are. Whether you join us at a fundraising event or matchday, enter one of our raffles or support one of our campaigns, every ticket bought, table booked and pound raised helps make this work possible: https://www.bathrugbyfoundation.com/events

Only 1 in 68 girls in the South West play rugby.

Over the past year, thanks to funding from Maddy’s Mark, our coaches have been working to help change that.

During 2025-26, we reached 312 girls and young women across six local schools, delivering 2,160 hours of inclusive rugby sessions.

Alongside rugby, our coaches provided 1-to-1 mentoring and wellbeing support - helping young women build confidence, resilience, positive self-esteem and connections with others.

For SF, one opportunity changed how she saw rugby - and herself.

She arrived unsure whether rugby was a place for her. She left knowing that it was.

We're incredibly grateful to Maddy's Mark for making this year's work possible.

Earlier this year, we took young people who had taken part in our Project Rugby sessions, to play on the pitch at The Stoop AND the PREM Rugby Final.

For many, it was a completely new experience.

And experiences like this are about more than rugby.

For young people disengaging from education, new opportunities can build confidence, change how they see themselves and help them reconnect with learning.

Last year, we worked with 1,267 young people through Project Rugby, a massive achievement. This September, we’re looking forward to working with even more schools to deepen the impact of this crucial work, thanks to PREM Rugby.

More than 1 million young people aged 16-24 are currently not in education, employment or training in the UK.
This is L. She’s 18, and she’s one of the young people we’re supporting right now through Advantage.

After struggling to secure employment, L joined the final step on our pathway of support, Advantage. We worked with her on her CV, interview skills and confidence - then helped her put those skills into practice by applying for new roles.

“Attending Advantage helped me feel more prepared for any future interviews and more confident within myself.”

As L takes her next steps towards employment, our support doesn’t stop here. We’ll stay connected with L and continue helping her access future opportunities, while working with local businesses and professionals to create more routes into employment, education and training for young people.

"Advantage provides young people with personalised support, practical guidance and the confidence to take positive steps towards education, employment or training. By focusing on individual strengths and aspirations, we help participants overcome barriers and move closer to achieving their goals." - Luke, Pastoral Lead and Functional Skills Tutor.

Could your business offer work experience, mentoring, industry insight or an employment opportunity? We’d love to hear from you. Find out more here: https://www.bathrugbyfoundation.com/News/pop-up-hubs-launched-to-get-16-24-year-olds-into-education-employment-or-training

40 young people and their families supported through Break Out.

That’s a wrap on our first two weeks of Summer Break Out at Whitstone School, delivered in partnership with SASP.

Throughout the sessions, young people have had the opportunity to stay active, try new activities, build confidence, develop new skills and spend time with friends in a safe and supportive environment.

Break Out plays an important role in our pathway of support, helping to bridge the gap for families during the school holidays by providing meaningful experiences and a safe space for young people when they need it most.

Next week, we’ll continue our summer provision at Welton Primary School as part of B&NES Council’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, supporting more local families and sharing more of the activities and experiences our young people take part in.

We look forward to showing the impact of this vital step on our pathway of support throughout the summer holidays.
