Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility Hearing healthcare and communication solutions for people who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing.

The Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility is passionate about creating a society in which Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing and Hearing individuals can interact freely without barriers. For those with hearing loss and deafness, communication becomes challenging, affecting any sphere of daily life, from work to home to school and community. Wavefront Centre provides supportive programs and services that focus on the strengths and talents of Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing individuals rather than barriers. Wavefront Centre works to create opportunities for individuals to gain employment, participate in communities, and increase social connectedness with family and friends. We also provide public education to increase awareness and understanding of topics related to Deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing.

: Firing up the grill at West 7th

As part of our year-long celebration of Wavefront Centre’s 70th anniversary, we’re sharing some of the everyday moments that brought our staff and community together.

This photo from 2003 takes us back to the annual United Way BBQ in the back parking lot of our former West 7th Avenue location. Events like these offered a chance to step away from the workday, share a meal, and enjoy time together as a team.

Sometimes the best memories are the simplest ones... Good food and good company!

Do you remember the annual BBQ or other staff gatherings at West 7th? We’d love for you to share your memories in the comments.

Hearing healthcare isn’t only about identifying hearing changes. Protecting your hearing from excessive noise is important too.

A few habits can help:
• Keep personal listening devices at a comfortable volume
• Use appropriate hearing protection around loud music, machinery and power tools
• Give your ears a break after spending time in noisy environments
• Avoid putting cotton swabs or other objects into the ear canal
• Include hearing checks as part of your overall healthcare routine

Your hearing connects you to conversations, people and experiences every day. It’s worth looking after.
