The legendary John Coltrane was born 100 years ago today! 🥳🎉 Celebrate his centennial with us on Monday (Sep 28) at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church when his son Ravi Coltrane performs “A Love Supreme” in its entirety.

Ravi Coltrane isn’t simply revisiting one of his father’s most celebrated works, he is bringing his own voice and experience to music that has been part of his family’s story from the beginning. It is a rare chance to hear “A Love Supreme” not as a relic of jazz history, but as a living work, interpreted by the next generation.

Some music is inherited. Some music is carried forward. For Ravi Coltrane, John Coltrane’s music is both. 🎷 As the son of one of jazz’s most transformative figures, Ravi Coltrane grew up alongside the sounds that would go on to shape generations of musicians. Decades later, he carries that legacy forward in his own voice, bringing an intimate, deeply personal connection to his father’s music to the stage.

You don’t want to miss Ravi Coltrane playing “A Love Supreme” in its entirety on September 28.

On July 3rd, Coastal Jazz held a concert to celebrate the life of Vancouver guitarist and composer, Tony Wilson. In Tony’s memory, Coastal Jazz is pleased to make a gift of all donations received at that concert to the Ayx Community Bus.

The Ayx Community Bus is a peer- and volunteer-led mobile cooling bus serving the DTES and Strathcona neighborhoods. We are so grateful for the vital work they do in our community and deeply thankful to everyone who joined us at “Flowers for Tone” to celebrate Tony’s legacy and help make this contribution possible.
