A huge thank you to everyone who supported our 2026 Native Plant Fundraiser! It was wonderful to see so many new and familiar faces picking up our youth-grown native plants. We’re so grateful to those who shared kind words about why they support EYA 🌱✨

We hope all the native plants settle in well and thrive in their new homes. Thank you for supporting and growing alongside us!

Our Native Plant Nursery 1 crew got busy towards the end of the season!

The youth made collages about eco-anxiety and the futures they envision, and everyone worked together to make dandelion root tea and pesto! After enjoying their tasty creations, the group got hands-on over at Rainbow's Meadow as well, removing lesser celandine and planting numerous different native plants species to support the ecosystem. 🌱

Over at Renfrew Ravine, the youth learned the story of Still Creek and harvested red elderberry flowers to make into syrups. There, our Peer Mentor Maya also facilitated a workshop on tree rings, and our guest Jaylen Bastos provided a lesson on tree identification! 🌳

We thank the youth for their hard work this season and hope they continue to grow as stewards of the land! πŸ’š

Land Guardians closed out the season with an eventful final few weeks of program!

The group was recently joined by guest Kristen Penhall, who did a bee workshop, teaching about the incredible diversity of pollinators in BC. Everyone got to sample various types of honey, get hands-on with different specimens, and smell a segment of a bee hive! 🐝

The group also spent lots of time doing stewardship in the garden. They cleared invasive species, planted to***co seeds, harvested raspberry leaves, and went on nature walks. Plus, the youth also made sure to slow down at times by sitting and reflecting in their nature journals or making salves. πŸ“πŸŒΏ

Our Rewilding program has wrapped for the Spring! To close out the season, youth planted calendula and mullein seeds in the Youth Garden, learned birding skills with guest Jaylen Bastos, and did lots of stewardship over at Renfrew Ravine. 🐦

Our Peer Mentors also facilitated their own lesson plans for the Rewilding crew, leading activities like playing nature-themed hangman and drawing made-up birds inspired by real species found in the garden. 🎨

Kudos to all the youth for a season full of creativity, stewardship, and connection to the land. πŸ’š

Over the past month, our Native Plant Nursery 2 crew were busy making the most of their final weeks of program!

The youth made their own herbaria, learned about different soil types, and tested the soils around Strathcona Community Garden. Plus, they explored their surroundings through smell and taste with an activity led by our Peer Mentors. πŸ‘ƒπŸŒΏ

Everyone also spent time over at Renfrew Ravine, where they learned about birding with special guest Sam and planted wood fern, false Solomon's seal, and wild ginger on the riparian slopes. 🌱
