The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Road Hockey event, fuelled by Longo's, marked its 15th anniversary this weekend, bringing together over 1,900 participants on 148 teams to raise $3.7 million, a new record for this event, in support of life-saving cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Over its 15-year history, the Road Hockey event has now raised almost $40 million.

Two participants also stepped up for the Shoot for $100K contest, each taking their shot to win $100,000. Wayne Robbins, from the 'Ovarian Blitzers', scored from 75 feet away and brought home $100,000, announcing that he was donating his prize to support cancer research at The Princess Margaret.

As the final buzzer sounded on this milestone year, the impact extended well beyond the pavement. The generosity of players, donors, volunteers, Longo's and other event partners are providing a powerful assist to The Princess Margaret's researchers and healthcare teams, helping turn promising discoveries into game-changing advances in cancer care.

For decades, Christine Simpson has helped share the stories of hockey, the people, the perseverance, and the teamwork behind the game. Now she is sharing her own.

Anyone who is going through cancer treatment, or supporting someone who is, knows that the cancer journey is a team sport, too. As Christine opens up about her breast cancer diagnosis, she recognizes the “three rockstar women” at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre guiding her treatment. This Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the importance of timely, personalized care.

Ovarian cancer can be difficult to recognize and is often diagnosed later, making specialized, coordinated care especially important.

At The Princess Margaret, the Comprehensive Ovarian Tumours Program (COTP) brings together surgeons, medical oncologists, radiologists, nurses, geneticists, pathologists, physiotherapists and psychosocial support teams to care for the whole person while advancing research to better understand and treat this complex disease.

Since 2018, the program has cared for hundreds of patients and supported more than 15 research studies exploring new approaches to surgery, genomics, patient outcomes and AI.

And none of this progress happens without support. Philanthropy fuels research, strengthens the patient experience, and helps the team pursue new ways to improve care, from understanding how tumours respond to treatment to using data and AI to inform surgical decision-making.

Thank you to everyone carrying the fire to help us move ovarian cancer care forward — for patients today and brighter tomorrows.
