Greenpeace Canada Facebook Community Policy:

Our page is designed to communicate with people who have liked our page and who want to be informed about the environmental campaign work that we do. It is also a place where you can engage with us and with others, and discuss matters relating to the environment or causes that matter to you. Although we try to almost never ban people or delete posts, from time to time, there will be a few individuals who:

-post content that is designed to promote unrelated services that could be seen as spam.
-use abusive language on the posts shared, that could hurt the sentiments of others.
-unnecessarily attack someone's religious, cultural, national or lifestyle beliefs and practices.
-abuse other individuals within the page.
-post pornographic or graphically violent images, unrelated to the page's current content. When we see any of the above-mentioned activities on the Greenpeace Canada page, we will remove the comment. Repeated occurrences of such behavior may lead to a ban. If this happens we will be transparent about the reasons, and we will always try and engage someone first (apart from spam posts), often we will ask to continue the discussion over email so that single conversations do not end up dominating the community. All we ask of you is to maintain the integrity of this page, with posts and comments that are respectful and relevant to the campaigns that we work on.

30+ fossil fuel front groups. 1 funder.

Influencing our algorithm
Shaping our classrooms
Quietly reaching into our wallets…

Remember when those headlines and posts about “energy independence” and “responsible resource development” were all across your feed? Well, it’s because a coordinated network made sure of it.

We launched a full investigation, called Manufacturing Petro-Populism.

This is what wonder looks like.
A rare Dumbo octopus brought a moment of pure joy and reminded us how much extraordinary life exists in the deep sea.

Happy World Octopus Day! 🐙

Let's reciprocate the care that nature provides us with. It's time to reject the short-sighted "Build, baby, build" mentality that subordinates all living beings and the natural world to a logic of speed and profit, not care and protection. 💔

On the very first day of the Fall Parliamentary session, the federal government introduced an omnibus bill that would weaken free, prior, and informed consent for Indigenous Peoples, weakens environmental protections, and workers rights...all to bulldoze ahead with extractive projects like mines and pipelines.

This "Build, baby, build" mentality is short-sighted and subordinates all living beings and the natural world to a logic of speed and profit, not care and protection. 💔

Send your MP an email to tell them nature is not an Economic Zone, it is our home >> https://act.gp/46J2MBG

Specifics of the bill include 👇

➡️ Sidelining the federal government’s duty to seek Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) from Indigenous Peoples on project decisions
➡️ Imposing a 1 yr timeline for federal reviews & decisions after a proponent’s project submission, compressing complex reviews of health, environmental and safety impacts into 12 months
➡️ Permitting the designation of “regions of national interest” – originally named “Federal Economic Zones” where certain industrial projects could be pre-approved
➡️ Allowing early construction activities to start before a project is approved
➡️ Weakening the Species At Risk Act to allow the Minister to consider “feasibility” for project conditions
➡️ Weakening protection conditions for fish and fish habitat
➡️ Appointing the Canada Energy Regulator as the single authority for assessing pipelines
➡️ Creating new guardrails around how the federal government can use Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to end strikes and lockout

The federal government must withdraw this bill, as it will lock us in a path of nature destruction.

🚨 Canada has officially ratified the Global Ocean Treaty!

This means that Canada is now legally bound to the global agreement aimed at protecting marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. 🌊

The treaty gives governments the tools to create ocean sanctuaries where wildlife and ecosystems can recover and thrive. 🐋

West Coast Pipeline may very well become designated as Canada's first Project of National Interest under Carney's Building Canada Act. Last week, the public comment process on the project ended.

Here's what 350.org had to say about this destructive project and what it would mean if it's designated as a Project of National Interest (PONI). Comment no pipelines to get the link to our action calling on MPs to take a stand and prevent public funding for this project in the 2026 federal budget.

Today, Gerard Barron, CEO of The Metals Company, is taking his “least-impact” pitch to The New York Times’ Climate Forward stage.

But nothing about TMC’s plan looks low-impact.

The company wants to send industrial machines into one of Earth’s least understood ecosystems - crushing habitats, spreading sediment, noise and artificial light, and risking damage that could be irreversible.

And it doesn’t end at the seabed.

After Trump ordered U.S. agencies to fast-track deep-sea mining, TMC used its U.S. subsidiary to pursue permission from NOAA to mine roughly 65,000 square kilometres of international seabed.

Our legal analysis finds that mining there under a unilateral U.S. permit would be incongruent with international law.

The deep seabed isn’t TMC’s to take. It is our shared heritage.

Barron calls it “least-impact.” But when a plan risks irreversible damage while working around international rules, the only thing being minimized is accountability.

That’s not climate progress.

We can’t move the climate forward by racing to the bottom.
