What matters most to you?

As we recognize Seniors Month, Sinai Health experts are highlighting the "What Matters" pillar of the 4Ms Framework, which encourages conversations centred on an individual's goals, priorities and wellbeing.

In this video, they share simple ways older adults can prepare for health care appointments and have more meaningful conversations about their care.

Healthy aging starts with understanding what matters most.

For more than 50 years, Sinai Health Foundation has been the bridge between generosity and innovation, bringing the community together to fund transformative care across Sinai Health.

That kind of impact depends on trust — trust that our organization is credible, accountable and transparent in how we steward the resources our community dedicates to making a difference in the lives of the patients and families we serve.

That’s why Sinai Health Foundation is proud to hold the Imagine Canada Accreditation Trustmark — a national standard recognizing strong governance, financial accountability and transparency across the nonprofit sector, helping donors give with confidence.

We’re proud to support the campaign from Imagine Canada.

And as part of this movement, we encourage our community to learn more about the Imagine Canada Accreditation Trustmark and how you can use it to make informed choices about where you give, ensuring the charities you support have met a high standard of excellence and trust.

For 19 years, Martini Madness has been bringing communities together in support of Crohn’s disease research. 🍸

Together, this year’s events raised $320K in support of the Genetic Environmental and Microbial (GEM) Project, a global study helping researchers better understand how Crohn’s disease develops and improve care for people living with the condition.

This year, supporters in both Ottawa and Toronto enjoyed great cocktails, lively conversation and an opportunity to support a cause that is helping shape the future of inflammatory bowel disease care.

Thank you to every sponsor, volunteer, donor and guest who made this year’s events such a success. We’re deeply grateful for your continued support. 🎊

An extended hospital stay for a high-risk pregnancy or a medically fragile baby can carry a heavy financial toll – especially in today’s economic climate.

That’s why Rebecca Risen and Zack Belzberg, Co-Chairs of The Residency: A House Party with Heart, wanted to create a fundraising event to support patients and families across Sinai Health’s Women’s and Infants’ programs through the Belzberg Risen Patient and Family Support Fund - which provides much needed financial assistance to families including covering overnight stays, parking and other critical items.

We are so grateful to the amazing committee whose vision, passion and hard work brought more than 175 people together and raised more than $500,000 in support of patients and families receiving care across Sinai Health’s Women’s and Infants’ programs.

This kind of support allows our Social Workers and parent resource teams to ease the financial burdens families may experience during their stay, so they can focus on what matters most – being close to their loved ones.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, and supported this special event. Your compassion and generosity will make a meaningful difference for so many families in our community.

Meet Ayven. She lives with Rett syndrome, a rare neurological condition that affects nearly every aspect of daily life.

For patients with complex medical or developmental conditions, finding dental care can be difficult. Many are turned away from traditional dental practices because the level of care required goes beyond what these clinics are equipped or trained to provide. As a result, many patients go without routine treatment. For Ayven, this had serious consequences.

Before finding care at Sinai Health, untreated dental issues led to a severe infection that required hospitalization. It was a difficult experience for her and her family.

When Ayven’s mom, Kim, first visited Mount Sinai Hospital’s Special Care Dentistry Clinic, the approach felt different. Ayven’s care team took the time to understand her needs, working closely with Kim to ensure she received the care she needed, while feeling respected and understood.

Today, Ayven receives care from a team experienced in supporting patients with complex needs, with the time, flexibility and compassion her care requires.

Donor support helps make this care possible. 💜

Ernest Ho has always believed in leading by example — something he and his wife, Bernadette, live out through a shared commitment to volunteering.

This passion for giving back reflects their values, rooted in Chinese philosophy, which emphasizes caring for others, especially seniors.

Affectionately known at Sinai Health as Ernie and Bernie, the pair are familiar voices at Sinai Health Radiothon – taking donations in support of the Chinese community. You might have also seen their names in Mount Sinai Hospital, in recognition of their recent gift in support of Sinai Health’s highest priorities.

That gift was inspired by a deeply personal experience in 2019, when Ernie’s mother received care at Sinai Health’s Seniors’ Wellness Centre. Here, older adults can access mental health services in Cantonese and other languages.

“The Seniors’ Wellness Centre supported my mother, and our whole family, in ways that we couldn’t find elsewhere. So, it felt natural to give to Sinai Health’s highest priorities,” says Ernie. “I have full confidence in the Sinai Health team to direct my gift to the areas where it’s needed most.”

We are grateful to Ernie and Bernie for volunteering and donating to Sinai Health. Join them with a donation of your own. 🔗 https://bit.ly/43pAkCU

On World Human Milk Donation Day, we’re recognizing the extraordinary impact our community is making in the lives of hospitalized preterm infants in Canada.

As the only accredited milk bank in Ontario, Sinai Health’s Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank provides high-quality donor human milk to many preterm babies at our own Newton Glassman Charitable Foundation Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mount Sinai Hospital, as well as for 52 other NICUs across Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

Last spring, alongside a generous matching gift, our community raised more than $304,000 to support the purchase of a much-needed milk analyzer at the Milk Bank in support of these babies and their families.

Once operational, this new technology will help the Milk Bank better analyze and optimize the quality of pasteurized donor milk for the 70 per cent of hospitalized preterm infants who do not have a full supply of their parent’s own milk.

We are deeply grateful to our community of donors, families and supporters for your support in helping these babies get the best possible start! 💜
