📣 Recognizing National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month. A time to reflect and honour the rich histories, cultures, contributions and enduring resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

It is also an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the truths of this land and reflect on the role each of us can play in advancing reconciliation.

At TRIEC, we believe that stronger communities and workplaces are built through learning, understanding, and respect. As we work to help talented individuals fully contribute their skills and potential, we recognize the importance of understanding Indigenous histories and perspectives and the role they play in shaping Canada today.

We encourage our network to explore Indigenous stories, voices, and resources, and to continue building their understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and perspectives.

📚 Start here:

You can also visit GCIndigenous and GCReconciliation to learn more about Indigenous voices and stories.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. One that requires commitment, understanding, and action from all of us.

a strong workforce starts with ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.

From May 31 to June 6, Canada marks National AccessAbility Week, a time to recognize the contributions, leadership and talents of persons with disabilities and reflect on the role accessibility plays in creating stronger workplaces and communities.

This year’s theme, ‘Building a Strong, Accessible Canada’ reminds us that stronger workplaces and communities are built when everyone can fully participate and contribute their skills.

At TRIEC, we believe stronger workplaces are built when talent is recognized, valued, and supported. Accessibility plays a critical role in making that possible. When barriers are removed, individuals can contribute their skills and expertise, organizations gain access to a broader pool of talent, and workplaces become stronger, more innovative, and more inclusive.

Creating a more accessible Canada is a shared responsibility, and one that benefits individuals, organizations, communities, and our economy alike.

As we mark National AccessAbility Week, we are highlighting the importance of accessibility in creating workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.

The National AccessAbility Week toolkit developed by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) provides resources to help organizations, partners, and stakeholders promote accessibility and inclusion.

👉 We encourage you to explore the toolkit here: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/campaigns/national-accessability-week.html

Last Friday at Toronto Newcomer Day, we celebrated the talent, resilience, and contributions that newcomers bring to our communities and workplaces.

🌟The celebration continues…

This week, we're launching Strength in Newcomers- a new video series that highlights the people, perspectives, and experiences helping shape stronger workplaces across Canada.

Every newcomer arrives with skills, expertise, and ambition. Yet too often, these strengths are overlooked. Through this series, we'll hear from leaders who have seen firsthand how newcomer talent drives innovation, strengthens teams, and helps organizations grow.

Findings from TRIEC's Embracing Immigrant Talent: Perspectives and Practices of Toronto Region Employers report show encouraging signs of progress:

✔️ 46% of employers have a dedicated focus on hiring immigrant talent
✔️ 89% are taking steps to support and integrate newcomers
✔️ 71% want to strengthen how they hire, retain, and advance immigrant professionals

These findings highlight a growing commitment among employers to building workplaces where newcomer talent can succeed and contribute fully.

Over the coming weeks, we'll share perspectives from leaders across industries who are embracing newcomer talent and seeing the impact in their workplaces every day 💪

✨️ That's a wrap on the 12th Annual Toronto Newcomer Day!

We're still buzzing from the energy, inspiration, and meaningful conversations that filled Nathan Phillips Square today.

⭐️ If there was one thing that stood out today, it was the determination to keep moving forward.

Throughout the day, we met skilled newcomers from across industries and around the world. While every journey was unique, many shared a common goal: to build meaningful careers, grow their professional networks, and create new opportunities in Canada.

Those conversations were a powerful reminder of the talent, resilience, and ambition newcomers bring to Toronto every day.

At TRIEC, we're proud to help skilled newcomers build the connections, mentorship, and industry insights that can help turn experience into opportunity.

We were also excited to welcome newcomers to the prelaunch waitlist for a new TRIEC platform currently being built for skilled newcomer professionals.

The enthusiasm we saw throughout the day
reinforced the need for innovative solutions that help talent connect with opportunity.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by the TRIEC booth, shared their story, and connected with our team. We were honoured to be part of your journey today

“Being a mentor is the perfect way to make an impact in a newcomer’s life by sharing my own experiences from when I was also a newcomer.”

When Alfredo Suarez first arrived in Canada, he understood the uncertainty that comes with starting over. Bringing years of experience and potential into a new job market can feel overwhelming.

Today, that experience is what drives Alfredo to give back.

As a long-time mentor with TRIEC Mentoring Partnership (TMP), Alfredo offers more than career advice. He provides encouragement, guidance and reassurance that success in Canada is possible.

Through every mentoring partnership, he helps skilled newcomers build confidence, expand their networks, and recognize the value they bring to the Canada’s workforce.

Alfredo’s story is a powerful reminder that when someone believes in your potential, it can change the course of your career journey.

“What helps your manager support your career goals.”

Employers: Are your teams having the right career conversations?

For Rebeca Mejia at Achievers, LIFT was a turning point — she learned to be direct about her aspirations and receptive to feedback, helping her manager understand how to support her growth.

LIFT strengthens these critical two-way conversations so employees understand how to advance, and managers know how to guide them.
