Started in August 2020 to help Toronto’s west end community members dealing with food insecurity.

On February 4, 2026, Gary Ward, of the men’s shop Cecil Ward and Sons, passed away. Gary and the Ward family had been wonderful supporters of the Bloor West Food Bank since we first opened our doors in 2020.

We were very honoured to learn that, before his passing, Gary requested that donations be made to the Bloor West Food Bank in lieu of flowers. In the weeks that followed, we received many generous donations, along with wonderful messages describing Gary’s kindness and the importance he held within the community and among the friends he left behind.

As a result of this thoughtful gesture, more than $5,500 was donated in memory of Gary Ward.

Our heartfelt condolences and sincere thanks go out to his wife, Janet Ward, his children, extended family, and wonderful friends. We are deeply grateful to Gary and the entire Ward family for their support of the Bloor West Food Bank, and we are honoured to be part of his legacy.

Join Team Bloor West Food Bank at the 2026 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon! 🏃‍♀️🚶‍♂️♿

Walk, run or roll the 5K with us while raising funds to support individuals and families in our community.

We’re hoping to build our biggest team yet, with a goal of 100 participants. Team members will also have the chance to earn fundraising rewards from Bloor West Food Bank, along with additional prizes offered through the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

Spots are filling quickly, and the 5K is already 80% sold out, so be sure to register soon!

Food banks offer so much more than canned goods, pasta and rice! 🥦🥕🍅

Today is one of those days where we are especially excited to show our clients the incredible variety of fresh produce available at Bloor West Food Bank.

Thanks to our amazing partners Daily Bread Food Bank, Second Harvest Deuxième Récolte and Odd Bunch! Today we had broccoli, beets, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, mangoes, garlic, garlic scapes, cucumbers, oranges, carrots, potatoes and pearl onions to share with the 350 families we serve. 🥭🥒🫑

And to top it all off, we had fresh lettuce and basil straight from a neighbourhood garden! 🌿🥬

We’re so grateful to everyone who helps us bring this kind of variety to our clients each week.

Not all of our clients are able to make the trip to the food bank, so we bring the food bank to them through our small but mighty Home Delivery Program.

Volunteers like Nina and Judith (pictured here) have been the backbone of this program in recent years, coordinating deliveries and helping ensure our clients receive the groceries they need. Along with a dedicated team of volunteer drivers, they’re making a real difference - one delivery at a time.

✨Volunteer Spotlight✨: Meet Mez, one of our incredible volunteers who is always willing to go the extra mile.

Mez regularly volunteers as one of our Runners, keeping our stations stocked and our shifts running smoothly. Mez also picks up our weekly Cobs Bread donation and is always happy to help with other donation pickups whenever needed.

His reliability and easy-going nature make a huge difference to our team.
